Oakley Police Report Multiple Vehicle Related Crimes Over the Weekend

The Oakley Police Department dealt with a heavier than normal level of activity related to crimes involving vehicles over the weekend.

On Friday night our officers were made aware of an Infiniti, that had been stolen out of Antioch, in the area of Laurel and Neroly. Our officers located the Infiniti unoccupied on Las Dunas Avenue. We once again recovered the stolen vehicle.

Later on Friday night Officer Hernandez attempted to stop two dirt-bikers at Cypress and Rose, but both of the dirt-bikers failed to yield. Officer Hernandez pursued one of the dirt-bikers until he lost control of the bike at Main and Simoni Ranch. Michael Relei (20, Oakley) was taken into custody for failing to yield to a traffic officer and taken to a local hospital to be cleared before being booked into jail.

On Saturday morning an officer located an abandoned truck in a field adjacent to Knox Lane. The truck had been reported as stolen out of Concord. Our officer recovered the truck by having it towed and notifying the owners of where they could find it.

The driver ran a way from the vehicle and was able to elude our officers.

On Sunday night a victim called in to report she found her stolen Lexus (stolen out of Pittsburg) in the 5200 block of Elm Street. Oakley officers arrived and found the stolen Lexus to be unoccupied. Our officers recovered the vehicle and turned it over to the victim.

On Saturday night a Kia Forte was seen in the area of Laurel and Mellowood. This same Kia was previously involved in a pursuit with the Oakley Police Department. Oakley officers tried to stop the Kia, but it lead them on another chase into Antioch where we lost sight of it. Officers later spotted the Kia unoccupied near Deersrpring and Plumwood and a search was done for the suspect, but nobody was found. We had the Kia towed to the Oakley Police Department for evidence processing.

Early Sunday morning Oakley officers were made aware of a Stolen BMW in the area of Renoir Court. Our officers arrived in the area and tried to stop the BMW but it fled away at a high rate of speed. Spike strips were used on the BMW but it was till able to flee at a high rate of speed. Oakley officers chased the BMW to the area of St. Francis Church where the BMW became disable due to the spike strips.

Later on Sunday night Officers were dispatched to Verifine Drive regarding two suspects who shattered the driver’s window of a Kia Forte in a driveway and tried to steal it. Camera footage shows one unknown suspect enter the vehicle from the front driver-side shattered window and tamper with the steering column. Another suspect was seen standing near an adjacent trail and appears to be a lookout. Moments later, the suspect who entered the KIA exits from the front driver-side window and starts running W/B on the trail. Both suspects then run E/B on the trail and out of the camera view.

To date the Oakley Police Department has taken reports on 42 stolen vehicles. In 2023 the Oakley Police Department took reports on 147 stolen vehicles.
