The City of Martinez in partnership with the Martinez Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Martinez and Company launched Gift 4Martinez after seeing similar successful programs operate in Pleasant Hill, Pinole, Benicia and more. The City Council recently approved the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds for this program with the aim of continuing to support economic recovery in Martinez.

At the October 5 City Council Meeting, the Martinez City Council approved a resolution allocating up to $100k in American Rescue Act (ARPA) Funding to implement the Gift4Martinez Community Digital Card Program.

At the June 29, 2022, City Council meeting, the City Council requested that the Economic Development Subcommittee evaluate the use of ARPA funds towards the implementation of a Community Digital Gift Card Program to support economic growth and bring back recommendations to the City Council. Staff presented general information about community digital gift cards, including policy and funding options, at the Subcommittee’s July 28, 2022 meeting. The Subcommittee directed staff to bring back additional information at its September 28, 2022. The Subcommittee met on September 28, 2022 and provided direction to staff on a recommendation for the City Council at its October 5, 2022 meeting. – Staff Report
