The Dead Fish Responds to Video Showing Rats

by CC News

The Dead Fish Restaurant issued a statement on social media after a video was being circulated showing a couple rats within the facility recently.

In the video, posted on December 15, one rat drops from a pillar along the ceiling while another is on the ground. The video is only 16-seconds long. The Dead Fish called it a one-time occurrence and say they do not have rats.

In response:

The Dead Fish restaurant is aware of the situation and video being circulated.

With the week-long dredging at the waterfront below, pulling up old lumber pilings, boats etc., the homeless encampment below the restaurant, winter landscaping of cutting back shrubs and trees, along with roof work the day prior, caused this one-time occurrence. We do not have rats.

There are exterminators on contract as well as regular county health inspections we must pass. it’s all done regularly and we recently passed our inspection.

For any restaurant near water…something like this could happen.. and usually has to deal with these issues. We honor anyone wishing to view our recent county inspection certificate or the restaurant, please call us to make appt.

According to Contra Costa County Food Inspection History, The Dead Fish has had several inspections since 2018 with the latest in November 29, 2022 when they passed with a Green Mark.

  • 11/29/22 – green pass

Any restaurant is bound to have a rat run through from time to time. It’s bad enough restaurants had to close during COVID. Now they have to deal with people like this.

This is so stupid. Every place on this planet has rats or rodent or infestation at one point or another including grocery stores. I buy their explanation and it will not prevent me from going there in the future. Sad everyone wants to whip out a phone and record. Thank you for posting the county health scores. I had no idea a business would be checked that much within a few years.

I’m a retired HVAC contractor and worked on many restaurants along the river from the Stockton, Antioch and Pittsburg areas all up to the Crockett area . Rats will find their way in . Animals and rats live along the river , it’s nature ! They’ll eat through anything to find food . I feel It’s not fair to single out the Deadfish restaurant because of this video . I frequent the Deadfish restaurant and will continue to do so . Secondly, I will say that it’s one of the cleanest restaurant I’ve been to , and as a Service technician , that includes behind the scenes and That is evident as they’re being transparent about their health department inspection logs . I could name a few restaurants along the river where I’ve serviced over the years that I would not visit due to improper maintenance preventing things like this from happening.

I totally agree with Michael M. The Dead Fish has been totally transparent regarding their inspections etc. It’s unfair they have been singled out. Any business, whether it be a restaurant or hotel along the water front has issues. Sounds like with all that has been going on down there they have had a real problem with RATS lately. Just like Lowe’s on Lone Tree with all the new building going on. I’ve seen cockroaches the size of those rats HA HA in hotel rooms near the river fronts…. only to be told they were water bugs……Also, if you think your grocery stores are free of RATS you’ve got another thing coming. I worked in one for 28 years. You’ve got both roaches and RATS. So all you perfect people…. ought to check out your own kitchens before you single out someone else’s. Roaches can be carried home in paper bags very easily. Sad to spread things like this around social media. Perhaps you should go to the owner first.
