City of Antioch Set to Disable Social Media Commenting

by CC News

According to an email obtained Thursday, it appears that the Antioch Public Information Officer is set to have comments disabled on city of Antioch social media platforms.

The email was sent by Rolando Bonilla, who is contracted at $8k per month, from the City of Antioch sent an email to City Manager Con Johnson stating the change would happen and that Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe is declaring a state of emergency related to the recent storms.

“I’ve copied all of the appropriate staff who manage the City’s social media. Please ensure comments are disabled” said Bonilla in the email.

The email also stated the upcoming annual Martin Luther King Day of Service is being cancelled.

If and when Antioch social media platforms are disabled for commenting, residents and followers of pages would no longer be able to respond to city issued postings. This would include interactions by the Antioch Police Department with residents, public works, parks and recreation and from the city hall account. It would also carry over to other city of Antioch social media pages.

This comes a day after Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe was accused by the city clerk Ellie Householder for deleting her comments on his social media page and while blocking her.

Check back for updates.

Censorship? Weird coming from that bunch. Controlling the narrative, nothing to see here

Is Bonilla a ghost? Serious question. 8k for a person that I’ve never seen and with no city email? That’s concerning.

Are you kidding us? This is horrific, preposterous and outrageous!

Disabling the social media comments feels very, very self-serving as opposed to SERVING THE PEOPLE!

So much for transparency from the City of Lamar. Who is Bonilla and how did he get this lucrative job? Friend of Lamar or Con? Ellie do you now see the real Lamar you were entangled with?

The current Antioch city government reminds me of many decades ago when there would be squabbles in my second-grade class about who would get to collect “milk money” from the class. But at least we then had the excuse of actually being children; this crew just acts like children.

Really? Sounds like we’re dealing with a bunch of 8 year olds. They all need to go!
