Free Medical Clinic in Pittsburg Seeks Volunteers to Serve Uninsured

Press Release

by CC News

Pittsburg, CA — Health care is one of the prime concerns and stressors in the lives of many residents in Contra Costa County, – health insurance is expensive and complicated.

In 2020, over 11% of non-elderly adults lack insurance, which impacts those who face other inequities; Blacks, Latinos and young adults. Fortunately, for those who lack health insurance, the RotaCare Pittsburg Free Medical Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul is here to help. The clinic is actively recruiting for medical professional volunteers – physicians, NPs, PAs, and nurses.

Bilingual translators are also needed. To volunteer, email Clinic Manager, [email protected] , or call (925) 439-2009.

Volunteering just once or twice a month makes a big impact on our community!

Volunteer Medical Director, Dr. Jane Hewitt, notes, “The patients are extremely appreciative, it’s so fulfilling to volunteer here.” Hewitt urges anyone who is retired from the medical profession to consider volunteering and experience the rewards and gratification that she has felt. “We can certainly use more physicians, PAs, NPs, RNs, LVNs, medical assistants and interpreters to help in the clinic,” she said. “There is a huge need for medical care for the uninsured that can help people before they end up in an emergency room.” If the clinic is able to gain more volunteers, it can open on Saturdays.

The free medical clinic is open every Wednesday from 5pm – 8pm, offering both in-person and telehealth. Patients can call (925) 439 – 2009 on Wednesdays, 1 pm-3 pm, to schedule a same-day appointment. The convenient location at St. Vincent de Paul’s (SVdP) Family Resource Center, 2210 Gladstone Dr. in Pittsburg, is close to public transit lines.

Providing no-questions asked medical care for Contra Costa County’s most vulnerable, uninsured residents, the program serves adults with no medical insurance, provides exams, pharmaceuticals, lab tests, diagnostics, referrals, health education – all at no charge.

Financial support for the free clinic in 2022-23 is provided from Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, John Muir Health, City of Pittsburg/CDBG, Contra Costa County/CDBG, City of Antioch/CDBG, The Sisters of the Holy Family, Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund-Supervisor Federal Glover, area Catholic Churches, local Rotary Clubs, St. Vincent de Paul and many generous individuals.
