Brentwood Councilwoman Shoots Back at “Poor Losers” and Unprofessional Bullies

Brentwood

During the more than 3-hour special city council meeting, Brentwood City Councilmember Pa’tanisha Pierson shot back at public commenters who offered up untrue comments and innuendos.

At the meeting, a member of the public accused the council jumping to the wrong conclusion of Councilmember Jovita Mendoza claiming she is passionate and not a bully. The commenter then accused the council of coming to that conclusion because Mendoza is a “female Latina”.

Another member of the public accused Pierson of being a “pretend lawyer” and a “pretend judge”.

It was during the reflections portion of the meeting, councilmembers were asked three questions which included:

  1. What will you start doing?
  2. What will you stop doing?
  3. What will you continue doing?

In her responses, Pierson stated she believed they were doing a good job and doing the best they could so there was nothing they could stop doing. She stated she will start recognizing their accomplishments more in public settings and figuring out a way to meet more with the public. She also added she will continue to thoroughly research and be prepared.

She then addressed comments made by some individuals.

“I will continue to not let the comments that are unproductive, fake news, false, buffoonery by people who are poor losers and unprofessional bullies bother me or take me out of my character and cause me not to have my ability to serve the community,” stated Pierson.

The meeting was a workshop with the Institute of Local Government which was aimed at providing an overview of Governance, reviewing key themes from Assessment Interviews, reviewing effective leadership and culture, reviewing roles and responsibilities, reviewing governance tools, and reviewing and providing possible direction to staff regarding City policies

Mayor Joel Bryant kicked off the meeting stating one of the main goals of the meeting is to have open discussion regarding their expectations and understanding of roles, responsibilities and expectation of community of what they should and could expect from the city council.

“All of us understand how important and essential quality good government and responsible government is,” stated Bryant. “Its important for us to be what the community deserves and there are examples throughout history of concerning behavior of leadership roles in government. I really want us to be the example of what to be, not what to be.”

Bryant said he hoped through this session members of the community could learn about the role of what a city council is and is not and what they can and cannot do.

Mendoza, who had been lobbying for city council policy changes, ethic and conduct policy updates was absent for the meeting.

Public Comments:

Danny Dohrmann highlighted the meeting only had 9 people on zoom and two members of the public in the room, which one is married to a councilwoman.

“First I want to applaud councilmember Mendoza for not participating in this, I wish you and you didn’t as well,” said Dohrmann. “Please don’t confuse passionate with bully. I am passionate, certain members up here are passionate. Don’t confuse that with bully, especially because she is female and Latina. People tend to like jump to conclusions, that is the wrong conclusion.”

He also encouraged Councilwoman Pa’tanisha Pierson to talk about her “relationship with Shea”

Sinziana Todor, who ran against Pierson and lost in the recent city council race for District 2, shared she believed this meeting was a waste of taxpayer money while accusing Pierson of not having a “professional stance” as she had her head rest against the back of a chair.

She also accused the city of having its priorities wrong and called the city manager a liar who should have already been fired.

She then attacked Pierson and Tony Oerlemans saying they are well versed in public service.

“You have a pretend lawyer, a pretend judge and also Mr. Oerlemans you have been in public service for a long time, if you don’t understand what leadership means, and you didn’t get enough training on leadership with our tax money, I am really sorry. You do not belong there,” stated Todor.

She further continued stating the council wasted taxpayer money going to Sacramento for training because “obviously you didn’t learn anything”

Note:
Comments made by Pierson regarding Prop 47 and petty theft during the Jan 10 meeting were also taken out of context online to fit an agenda against Pierson. Here full commentary can be viewed here. Oerlemans, a cop, also agreed the move would be a waste of time and resources when the bill will likely be amended.

Updated… got the spelling from an old Brentwood City Council minutes. I’ll make sure I’ll use the proper one going forward

There is a common theme in these problematic city council members in Brentwood and Antioch.

So, the council woman basically gave a non-answer.

If you asked your child or even an employee during performance reviews the same three questions would you accept “they believe they were doing a good job and doing the best they could so there was nothing they could stop doing… will start recognizing their accomplishments more in public settings” as answers?

To me personally I think it is unacceptable and galling that her response didn’t receive pushback to get her to truly answer the question.
