Update: Vasco Road Now Open After Monday Morning Fatal Crash

A vehicle versus big rig crash shut down Vasco Road 2-miles south of Camino Diablo Monday morning in Contra Costa County.

The vehicle crash was reported at 4:19 am of a vehicle versus big rig with major damage with a female occupant trapped.

By 4:36 am, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Engine 99 made its way on scene and confirmed the crash and the location. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office had already made its way on scene reporting a possible DOA. The roadway was shut down in both directions. Crews were working on patient extrication.

By 4:57 am, Contra Costa County Fire made access to the patient, reporting she was deceased. CONFIRE cancelled the air ambulance.

As of 5:15 am, crews on scene were still extricating the victim from the vehicle.

As of 9:45 am, CHP opened all lanes of traffic.

CHP UPDATE: Two vehicle fatal crash on Vasco Road

This morning (2/27/23) at approximately 4:19am, CHP Contra Costa responded to a two vehicle crash on Vasco Road south of Camino Diablo.

Our preliminary investigation indicates a Ford Fusion, with one occupant, was traveling southbound on Vasco Road and a Tractor Trailer Combination, with one occupant, was traveling northbound on Vasco Road. The Ford and the Tractor Trailer collided head on, due to the Ford crossing into the northbound lane.

The driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased on scene and the driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. This crash is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this crash or the events leading up to it, call CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
