I believe there is a miss print. Shouldn't it be 7 shooting since January 1st?? Ether way, It's a total disgrace that Antioch has sold out it's citizens. I moved here in 1972 from Pittsburg because of the safety and shopping access on the West side of our once 'fine' community. We had Sears, Orchard, Several grocery stores, Drug store, Nice restaurants. I ran an auto repair shop in this town for 30 years till 2002. Now at 78years old, I fear for my wife's and my life.....EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The push for accepting federal housing started it all. That, my friends, gives us what we have now and it will not get better! Drive around West Antioch and take a look but, DON'T GET OUT OF YOUR CAR.

Mr. Augustino you are correct about west Antioch. Check cashing, laundromats and liquor stores seem to fair well many others are boarded up. Delta Fair area between Somersville and Buchanan seems perpetually strewn with trash. As time passes more businesses will quit Antioch. Blame belongs to city and past city councils not for making poor decisions but for making catastrophic decisions. Citizens and property owners of Antioch have been betrayed.

You are correct. We moved here in 1990. Bought our first home. Brand new. Antioch was so clean, and the people do nice. I noticed the difference from San Francisco were I grew up right away. New Safeway, movie theaters, etc. Then the city councils allowed section 8 and other Federal programs. Now it’s a s..t hole. I am embarrassed to mention the name Antioch. But, this is the result of liberal progressive policies. It’s not going to get better.

I echo the comment from Roy Maxson. I moved to Antioch in 1987 when the new developments on Hillcrest were just underway. Antioch was a vibrant, up and coming community, with lots to offer... until the section 8 rentals started to invade along with the East Oakland ghetto mentality/mindset. It was clear then that the beginning of the end for Antioch was underway. In 1987, Pittsburg was considered the arm pit of East County and Antioch looked down their nose at them... how the tide has changed, I'd choose Pittsburg over stagnant Antioch these days.

Ah yes. The Antioch I moved to in 1991 is now a distant memory. Super clean, quiet, nice homes, manicured lawns, respectful neighbors, sense of community, safe. My, my! How things have changed and for the absolute worse! I don’t even recognize Antioch any more in what it has become. It’s the opposite of everything I listed above. If I had to choose again knowing this would be the outcome of my hard work of saving to purchase a home and sweat equity of maintaining my investment, I’d choose not! Major disappointment.

Choose Life: I moved here in 1965 with $5,000. My grand kids live in that home now. My mother told me never to move to Antioch because it would always be a sewer. I didn't believe her. I loved this city until about 3 mayors ago. It has gotten increasingly "sewer" like for sure. I am now way over 80 so to change the course would be difficult. The people of Antioch have to be far more careful who they vote for. Thank gosh I'm clear on this guy.
