by CC News

On Monday, Tri Delta Transit confirmed that they have had multiple incidents where a transit bus has been struck by BB Gun pellets.

Tri Delta Transit CEO Rashidi Barnes shared that since September 2022, there has been 28 incidents between the cities of Antioch, Brentwood, and Pittsburg with police reports filed in each city.

Barnes said 92% of the occurrences since September have happened between Pittsburg and Antioch.

No details on locations or city breakdowns were provided.

“Out of an abundance of concern for our operators and riding public, we are actively working with the local police jurisdictions to help solve this case. This is not something that we can solve on our own,” said Barnes. “Staff is also actively working with the transit operators to address any concerns that they may have about this issue.”

According to Barnes, there has been one possible injury to date, however, no further details were provided on that incident or when it occurred.

Barnes said the investigation is active across multiple jurisdictions and they will continue to work with all of east county police departments until this case is solved.

Eastern Contra Costa Transit Authority (ECCTA) was formed in 1976 as a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) consisting of the cities of Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg and the county of Contra Costa. Oakley incorporated as a city and joined in 2000. ECCTA is governed by an eleven-member board of directors composed of two appointed members from each of the mayors of Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, and Pittsburg, two appointed members by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, and one member at large. ECCTA operates fixed-route and paratransit service under the name “Tri Delta Transit” and contracts with a private company, First Transit, for the operation of buses.

ECCTA provides nearly 2 million trips each year to a population of approximately 315,000 residents in the 225 square miles of Eastern Contra Costa County. Tri Delta Transit operates 16 local bus routes Monday-Friday, 6 local bus routes on weekends and holidays, 8 Tri MyRide shared ride-hail shuttle vans, and door-to-door bus service for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
