On Wednesday, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that no decision on charges have been made in last weeks fatal stabbing in the City of Pittsburg.

On May 11 at 3:30 pm, the Pittsburg Police department responded to the fatal stabbing at the Belmont Apartments on Power Avenue after a man and woman were involved in a fight. The incident left the man stabbed in the chest and he succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The female was taken into custody who has allegedly claimed “self defense” in the incident.

According to Ted Asregadoo, Public Information Officer to the District Attorney, the case was brought over by Pittsburg Police for review on Monday. However, a charging decision was deferred pending further investigation. He said the suspect is likely out of custody while the investigation continues.

Once Pittsburg Police continue to investigate and bring back more information, they may refer charges to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The District Attorneys will then complete the review, that is when a new charging decision will be made by the office.

No other information on the case was released and the suspect was not identified.
