Tri Delta Transit Bus Windows Shot Out by BB Gun

Just before 4:30 pm Wednesday, the Pittsburg Police Department responded to a report of a Tri Delta Transit bus that was shot at in the City of Pittsburg.

Police and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to Davi Ave and Civic Ave where they located a bus with two windows shot out at. No injuries were reported.

Upon further investigation, police said the shooting was from a BB Gun and occurred on W 17th Street. At the time of the shooting a mom and two children were passengers on the bus.

On May 1, this publication reported Tri Delta Transit confirmed that they have had multiple incidents where a transit bus has been struck by BB Gun pellets. Tri Delta Transit CEO Rashidi Barnes shared that since September 2022, there has been 28 incidents between the cities of Antioch, Brentwood, and Pittsburg with police reports filed in each city.

Barnes said 92% of the occurrences since September have happened between Pittsburg and Antioch.

It is not known if there have been any other incidents involving Tri Delta Transit being shot at. Today’s shooting makes 29 confirmed incidents.

Police did not release any other information or possible motive and all shootings are under investigation across multiple jurisdictions in East Contra Costa County.


Eastern Contra Costa Transit Authority (ECCTA) was formed in 1976 as a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) consisting of the cities of Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg and the county of Contra Costa. Oakley incorporated as a city and joined in 2000. ECCTA is governed by an eleven-member board of directors composed of two appointed members from each of the mayors of Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, and Pittsburg, two appointed members by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, and one member at large. ECCTA operates fixed-route and paratransit service under the name “Tri Delta Transit” and contracts with a private company, First Transit, for the operation of buses.

ECCTA provides nearly 2 million trips each year to a population of approximately 315,000 residents in the 225 square miles of Eastern Contra Costa County. Tri Delta Transit operates 16 local bus routes Monday-Friday, 6 local bus routes on weekends and holidays, 8 Tri MyRide shared ride-hail shuttle vans, and door-to-door bus service for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
