Contra Costa County Fair Announces Chaperone Policy

by CC News

On Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fair announced it will have a Chaperone Policy in place for Sunday, the last day of the fair.

The policy comes after several fights broke out the last two days and were caught on video–you can view at least three of them on our facebook page.

The policy was announced at 10:14 am Sunday on social media.

We want to ensure that the Fair remains a SAFE and FUN environment for all families and friends to gather and make memories. So, for the last day of the Contra Costa County Fair Sunday 5/21/23 we are implementing a Chaperone Policy. After 5pm ALL youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Thank you so much for your cooperation and understanding.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff has not yet provided any information on the number of incidents at the fair, if any arrests/citations have been made or number of deputies that have been dispatched to the fair over the last few days. Its not known if any firearms were recovered from patrons of the fair.

Note: Although the County Fair is in the city of Antioch, is unclear yet if the Antioch Police Department also responded to assist, the jurisdiction is the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office.

Too little too late. Move the fairgrounds to another part of the county. Security should be addressed going forward or don’t hold the event. Not enough security or law enforcement for these crowds. Piss poor planning, no accountability and any child under 18 should have to be accompanied by an adult at all times. If things do happen, hold the parent accountable.

Dude, moving the event has nothing to do with it…

no matter where the even is all under the age of 18 should be supervised by an adult . who knows attendance will probably be up. people knowing that supervision is mandatory might feel more at ease when it comes to going to the fair.

Glad I read this. Glad I don’t live in this town. From Oakland to Antioch, we are falling apart with help from over liberalized city governments. Build more prisons, and use them!!

Who is chaperoning the parents because some of the videos show adults not doing a thing and in a couple of them actually encouraging the fight. Just pathetic. The fair should have enough security and law enforcement on hand to ensure a safe fair for everyone. If they can’t, then do not have a fair.

Antioch has become an entire ghetto. Move the fair to a less ghetto town in the future. That whole town is not safe for law abiding citizens. Are you proud Lamar?

Decent people don’t want to live around this ignorance. It’s so disheartening to see the decline in safety and civility in the city. Pretty soon, more and more folks will start to throw in the towel and just walk away. I’m one of them.

Any social justice warriors that can explain this type of behavior????????? Let’s start by making excuses for all this behavior… and then let’s make more excuses…. And then more excuses …. And in the end let’s not hold anyone accountable because it’s not really their fault… oh and then let’s just pray that that works and we have a safer city of antioch…

As soon as you explain the more destructive mass shootings by anti-social justice followers. Good luck with that my friend

PEOPLE IN ANTIOCH DONT KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE LIKE RESPECTABLE HUMAN BEINGS.

FUN and SAFE????
Right!
Time to call in the National Guard.
The “Mayor” fired the police because some of them said bad words and hurt their feelings.

I was there with my kids and my mom. I had to step Infront of my handy-capped mother in a walker and my two young children so that they didn’t get trampled my hundreds of teens running through the fair. We really didn’t understand why they were doing this but they did fight, broke fair equipment, ran by venders snatching their merchandise, they where working on the mob mentality try to create havoc at a county faire. They looked like they were trying to provoke a riot “groups standing on fair equipment jumping on it to break it, knocking over venders set ups” they also had cameras and microphones interviewing teens during the chaos. This was definitely planned event to promote chaos and havoc. There was security but these teens were out of control and the police had to be called. We shouldn’t need the police at the county fairs! They closed the fair early had made everyone leave.

Welcome to Ghettoioch!

Land of the hoodrats.

I too was also present. Had to pick up the child I was with and run because I didn’t want her to get trampled. Their “armed security” clearly wasn’t enough. While running out only two sheriffs showed up and they were directed to a parking lot fight, so there was a lack of communication between that incident and the one near the rides. Will never return here with the lack of security. This could have ended realllly bad.

Are you enjoying the crime you voted for Antioch?

Robert C. May 22, 2023 - 9:06 am

The New Antioch shines again. The county needs to pull its collective head out of its collective rear end. The lessons aren’t hard to grasp. First, either move the event to a more appropriate venue or don’t hold it at all. Second, provide heavy security or don’t hold it at all.

Gave up attending Fair years ago.
Groups of thugs having zero respect for others and massive law enforcement presence is not something my children or grand children need be exposed to.

E May 22, 2023 - 3:23 pm

There was zero law enforcement presence and that didn’t help. After all the fights started, two sheriffs showed up

Frank May 22, 2023 - 12:51 pm

Federal Glover where are you at on this? You didn’t have any problem speaking out about cops, time is now to speak about this these thugs at County Fair which you are a Supervisor. Specifically speak on the Facebook videos that were posted.

Ernesto May 22, 2023 - 7:50 pm

I think if it was a cops family damaged in any way, then cops would have come right away, like the saying goes “to serve and protect themselves!” But our kids, our families, regular people trying to enjoy a day, the police can careless!! Do you think the police has no records of gangs and thief’s that can show up at events in the city???
And a group of kids jumping on one single kid!!! That’s plain coward!! And no one there tried to brake it off, so being present at an execution? What kind of people do nothing???

Sambo May 23, 2023 - 8:16 am

It’s Antioch—– nobody gives a damn,

Dan May 23, 2023 - 9:24 am

The Contra Costa County Fairground is state property. Although the event happens in Antioch, which is a city in Contra Costa County, neither Antioch police nor county deputies are responsible for providing security for the event, unless they are contracted to do so. That was not the case this year.
