The Bentwood Union School District confirmed Tuesday that it is investigating an incident where a student hijacked a projector and displayed racist images.

The incident allegedly took place at Edna Hill Middle School, but the District would not confirm the location where the incident occurred.

Superintendent Dana Eaton released the following statement:

“Our district is currently investigating an incident earlier this week where a student allegedly briefly “hijacked” the projector in three teacher’s classrooms to display racist images.  Teachers acted immediately and were able to stop the projections from continuing.

When the principal became aware, she immediately contacted our technology department to both investigate the incident and work to eliminate access for this to happen again.  Our district is a place where everyone belongs and we want all to feel welcome.  We are continuing our investigation and expect to conclude it soon. We will not tolerate any type of racist or hateful behavior and the consequences will be severe for any student involved.”

We are continuing our internal investigation and expect it to conclude shortly.  We expect that law enforcement will be involved following our internal investigation.

No other information was released.

The Brentwood Police Department is now investigating the incident but have not released any information.

Unfortunate and the culprit(s) should be punished. But lets not make a proverbial federal case out of it. We are, after all, talking about immature middle schoolers. The school need to tighten its procedures for access to such equipment.
