The Alameda County Sheriff reported that on the 4th of July, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office confiscated 407 pounds of illegal fireworks on July 4th.

The effort was conducted by the ACSO, Eden Township Substation Property Crimes Unit (PCU), Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD), Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), Crimes Against Persons (CAP), Special Victims Unit (SVU) and the K9 Unit conducted a firework suppression operation from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

This operation was established to reduce the potential danger to citizens within Alameda County and public safety personnel working in and around Unincorporated Alameda County due to the illegal use of fireworks and destructive, explosive devices. This operation was designed to enforce County, State, and Federal criminal statutes and remove those devices from the community.

Alameda County Sheriff says it took a zero-tolerance approach and used the operation to educate the public about fireworks and their dangers to the community.

Units assisted patrol with numerous calls related to illegal fireworks activity and turned over the devices to EOD for proper disposal of the 407 pounds of illegal fireworks confiscated during the operation.

On June 27, the sheriffs office reported that Eden Township Substation Investigations conducted parole compliance checks in search of illegal fireworks and guns. Nearly 300 pounds of fireworks, 1.82 pounds of cocaine and other drugs were seized during the searches.
