Oakley Reminds Residents of E Cypress Corridor Evacuation Route

E Cypress Corridor

The City of Oakley issued a reminder this week regarding its emergency evacuation route for residents along the E Cypress Coordinator should they ever need to use it.

With the devastation caused by the Maui fire, we would like to remind residents of the emergency evacuation route out of the East Cypress area as the City continues to work with developers on a long-term, complex project to widen East Cypress Road.

The City formally secured this evacuation route for residents in the event of an emergency through Memorandums of Understanding with private property owners and the Reclamation Districts (RD 799 and RD 2025). The City is the lead on determining whether an emergency requires evacuation.

In the event of a partial or full evacuation of the East Cypress Corridor Area and surrounding unincorporated areas of the County, all outbound traffic (leaving Bethel Island/Summer Lake Community) is to use a land dam/levee to travel to Holland Tract Road and Delta Road and then use Delta Road to travel to the Knightsen/Oakley area.

This route is only designated for passenger cars. Commercial vehicles, multi-axle vehicles, RVs, and trailers are not to be driven over the land dam.

Step-by-step evacuation route directions and a printable map are available on our website at www.ci.oakley.ca.us/evacuation.

We recommend you keep a copy in your car and your emergency “go bag.” (Visit www.ready.gov/kit for information on what else to includes in your “go bag.”

Notes:

Back in October 2019, a 3:00 am fire in the 3000 block of Gateway Road on Bethel Island caught fire after a PG&E transformer was sparking with power lines down. It started multiple fires as with high wind sparks were cast 200-years away. This fast moving fire caused ember casting into the Summer Lakes community forcing residents to evacuate their homes at 5:30 A.M. With multiple fires, it shut down E Cypress Road blocking exits for residents.

The county needs to put a sign right passed Knightsen rd eastbound on Cypress rd ..that reads … “Not a Though street ”
Or ” No Outlets” on this 2 lane road … one way in and one way out …
