Liberty Union High School District to Limit Attendance at Sporting Events

On Wednesday, the Liberty Union High School District implemented a new policy which could impact plans to attend local sporting events.

According to Nate Smith, Athletic Director at Heritage High School:

Both Freedom and Liberty have now implemented policies for their football games which will restrict student attendance to only the host school and their opponent.  For example, this Friday at Liberty, only Liberty and Will C Wood students will be admitted to the game; this Friday at Freedom, only Freedom and Vanden students will be admitted to the game.  Similar policies have already been in place at Antioch and Deer Valley.  These policies are ongoing for the remainder of this season and until noted otherwise.

Smith confirmed that the policy does not impact Heritage High School at this time, even given the fact the school received international attention and made Barstool Sports from a former teacher running onto the field and being arrested by Brentwood Police.

“Students may still enter if with a paying adult who has the tickets and takes responsibility for said students, but may not enter on their own or with other groups of students if they do not belong to one of the competing school,” said Smith.

UPDATE from Superintendent Volta:

As with non-participation lists, this is a site decision. The schools have done this in the past after some “events” involving non-supervised students from outside schools, including local middle schoolers.  This year all three schools opened it up but after last Friday night, two  have decided it was best to only allow entrance to school aged students from participating schools and for those students accompanied by an adult parent.

It’s important to note that we have game supervision at our sites from both schools and our students do a great job complying with the campus supervisors and administrators.  That is not always the case when students from other schools attend when their home team is playing out of the area.

Heritage has chosen to still allow others to attend. If they have problems with outside students they may choose to do the same.

I know it’s different from back in the day, however safety is the priority and Freedom and Liberty had a number of students at there games last week that were not there to enjoy the action on the field. And yes they are/were investigating “events’ that occurred.

Sincerely,
Eric L. Volta

Ex-Teacher Arrested After Running onto Field During Heritage HS Football Game

UPDATE Disrupting A School Activity at Heritage High School

On September 1, 2023 at 7:25 pm, Brentwood Police Officers were working the Heritage High School vs. Granada High School football game when the Heritage High School principal alerted officers to a former staff member named Carlos Hurtado, a 27-year-old male from Oakley.

Hurtado had previously received a trespass admonishment to stay away from Heritage High School campus.

Officers attempted to contact Hurtado while the game was in progress, but Hurtado fled on foot in an effort to escape officers. Officers foot pursued Hurtado within the football stadium, but was subsequently taken into custody after being tackled by a bystander.

Hurtado was arrested for disturbing a school activity, trespassing, and obstruction charged. This was an isolated incident to which no officers or bystanders sustained injury.

Hurtado was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. — full story
