The closure is CANCELLED due to predicted rain. Caltrans is aiming to reschedule the closure for February, possibly President’s Day weekend. All closures are dependent on circumstances such as rain.

Southbound I-680 will REMAIN OPEN between the I-580/I-680 interchange and Koopman Road in Pleasanton January 12-16.

Full I-680 Closure Planned for MLK Holiday Weekend

PLEASANTON / ALAMEDA COUNTY – Caltrans is scheduled to close southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton between the I-580/I-680 Connector and Koopman Road on Friday, January 12 through Tuesday morning, January 16, 2024.

During the closure, contractor will replace a portion of the existing deteriorated roadway with new pavement on southbound I-680, between the I-580/I-680 Connector and Koopman Road. The work will repair deteriorating existing pavement and enhance motorist safety while reducing the number of nightly closures needed on the project.

The I-680 freeway will be closed in the southbound direction between the I-580/I-680 Connector and Koopman Road from 9:00 p.m. Friday, January 12 to 4:00 a.m. the following Tuesday, January 16.

This weekend closure will rehabilitate the pavement an entire year ahead of schedule, giving motorists a smooth ride starting in January 2024 instead of having to drive on deteriorated pavement until 2025. It also will accomplish the amount of work that otherwise would require an estimated 50 nighttime closures.

In the case of rain or unanticipated developments, the closures will be rescheduled and the public will be notified.

Portable changeable message signs will be placed prior to closure advising motorists of this closure and will remain in effect throughout the weekend while work is being performed.

Northbound I-680 will remain open and will not be affected by the closure.

Caltrans is aware that the closures will impact the motoring public and measures are being taken to minimize inconvenience. Caltrans thanks the motoring public in advance for your patience as we work to improve I-680.
