Woman Arrested After Car With 2-Year-Old Stolen in San Pablo

The San Pablo Police Department took an Oakland woman into custody after a 2-year-old child was inside a vehicle when it was stolen.

At 1:25 pm, officers responded to the 1300 block of California Avenue on a report of a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The victim advised her 2-year old child was inside her vehicle when it was taken. Based on nearby surveillance, a female was seen taking the victim’s vehicle.

Officers flooded the surrounding neighborhoods within 20-minutes, Richmond Police located the vehicle with the child unharmed near Barrett Avenue and Hayes Street. The child’s mother responded and was reunited with her child.

Using the victim’s cell phone which was taken from the vehicle, officers discovered the suspect was in the Oakland area. Officers subsequently located the suspect in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Avenue. Officers observed the suspect accompanied by a two unidentified females entering a white 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and it immediately fled. Officers engaged in a short pursuit before the suspects fled from the vehicle on foot in the 1400 block of E 1th Street in Oakland. Officers were able to detain the driver and the two other subjects were not located. A records check of the Hyundai revealed it was stolen out of Hayward on March 3rd.

After comparing surveillance footage it was confirmed the vehicle theft/kidnapping suspect in San Pablo was the person arrested in Oakland. She was later identified as 35-year old Joy Taueetia of Oakland. Taueetia was subsequently booked at Contra Costa County jail on charges of vehicle theft and kidnapping.
