Concord

The City of Concord has announced Lime Ridge Open Space is closed July 2-3 due to excessive heat this week.

Contra Costa County is under an excessive heat warning as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees this week, creating dangerous conditions.

At the recommendation of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire), the City of Concord has closed its open space areas including Lime Ridge Open Space and the open space trails within Newhall Community Park from Tuesday, July 2 through the evening of Wednesday, July 3.

In coordination with ConFire, City staff will reevaluate the conditions mid-week and determine whether to extend the closures.

In addition to the health dangers that accompany extreme heat, the risk of fire danger is very high. Closure of the open spaces during this time will protect the public and firefighters and preserve firefighting resources.

Due to anticipated high temperatures over the next several days, the City of Concord will open the Concord Senior Center as a cooling center, where air conditioning and comfortable seating are available. Located at 2727 Parkside Circle, the facility will be open as a cooling center on the following days:

  • Tuesday, July 2, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

  • The Meadow Homes Spray Park, 1351 Detroit Ave., is open daily through the summer from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Concord Community Pool, 3501 Cowell Rd., will be open for recreational swimming 1-4 p.m. on weekdays, and 12:30-5 p.m. on weekends and on the July 4 holiday.

It can’t really be an open space if it’s closed.
