Antioch Man Arrested in Shooting of Off-Duty Cop in Berkeley

The Berkeley Police Department says it has arrested a 27-year-old Antioch man in connection with the shooting of an off-duty cop in the City of Berkeley.

According to police:

On November 30th just after 3 pm, an off-duty police officer was following a suspicious vehicle that may have been involved in an auto burglary the previous day. While following the suspicious vehicle, the occupant of the vehicle starting shooting at the off-duty officer who was following. This occurred on the 2100 block of Oregon Street.

Thankfully, no one was struck by the gunfire.

After interviewing witnesses and reviewing video surveillance footage of the incident, detectives identified the suspect as 27-year-old Antioch man and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

On December 12th, investigators took the suspect into custody after he was contacted by law enforcement in relation to a stabbing investigation in Contra Costa County.

On December 13th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with PC 245(a)(2)—Assault with a deadly weapon, PC 246—shooting at a occupied motor vehicle, PC 29800(a)(1)—being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as several criminal enhancements.
