CHP Vehicle Pursuit Results in Major Injury Crash in Antioch, Driver Airlifted

At 2:38 pm Tuesday, a California Highway Patrol vehicle pursuit resulted in a vehicle crash and a vehicle in flames at the Contra Loma Blvd on-ramp at Highway in the City of Antioch.

According to preliminary information, the CHP was in pursuit of a vehicle driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed when it continued eastbound on Highway 4. The pursuit began at Baily.  The vehicle then exited at Contra Loma Blvd and went through traffic before attempting to get back on Highway 4 when it collided with another vehicle.

The driver was pulled from the vehicle by Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters after being trapped for approximently 40-minutes and was airlifted to a local hospital.  The Antioch Police Department also responded to provide traffic control and assist.

CHP has released no additional information as of 5:00 pm.

Note: the roadway is back open.

9:00 pm UPDATE Via CHP

This afternoon (2/7/23) around 2:30 pm, CHP Contra Costa attempted to make a traffic stop on a grey Saturn Vue on eastbound SR-4 near Bailey Road. The Saturn fled from the officer and a pursuit ensued. The Saturn continued eastbound and exited the freeway at Contra Loma Boulevard but continued through the intersection and up the Contra Loma on-ramp to eastbound SR-4. The Saturn collided into the rear of a tanker truck that was traveling on the on-ramp. The driver of the Saturn was extricated and flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital for major injuries. The driver of the tanker truck was not injured. This incident is still under investigation.

Too bad the CHP doesn’t have radios in their vehicles. Or air support. Needlessly endangering innocent civilians is just stupid

I hope the guy on the Saturn suffers very much .. it’s amazing to read the comments were people blame CHP or police officers for this when all this criminals or antisocial people cause all this problems ..!!!
