Antioch Police De-Escalate Man Armed With Knife

On Friday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of a male armed with a knife in the City of Antioch.

The incident began shortly before 8:00 am when officers arrived to the area of Null Drive and Desry’s Blvd where they located a male on a bicycle and was armed with a knife. When police made contact, the male was having a mental health crisis and threatened to fight police and use the knife to harm himself and/or officers.

This prompted an additional response with Antioch Police officers along with a unit from the Brentwood Police Department.

For over an hour, police utilized crisis intervention and de-escalation training to talk the man down. He eventually was taken into custody before being transported by AMR to an area hospital to receive treatment. Prior to being transported, the male was thankful for the help while Antioch Police were heard telling then man they were thankful nobody had to be hurt and wished him well.

According to police, the male did not live in the City of Antioch, but he did have family living in the area. They also confirmed he was armed with a knife. No other information was released. The Brentwood Police Department, AMR, and Contra Costa County Fire all responded.

No injuries were reported.
