Oakley Seeks Input for Marsh Creek Pedestrian Bridge Survey

Marsh Creek Oakley
The City would like to know your preference for the Marsh Creek Pedestrian Bridge at Creekside Park.

The City of Oakley is working with American Rivers to expand the current Marsh Creek Restoration project located between Laurel Road and the pedestrian bridge at Creekside Park.

That expansion would run from the pedestrian bridge south to Honey Lane.

The goal is to design the new restoration project to function as well as possible with the existing restoration area. In order to do so, engineers and designers must plan how to span the creek and future restoration area in order to continue to allow recreational access across the creek in an area residents are familiar with at Creekside Park.

This survey will look at two bridge options, along with the relative pros and cons of each, and then ask for your input on which option you believe the City should pursue. Please continue to learn more.

Option 1: Keep the existing bridge in the existing location.

This project option would keep the existing bridge in its current location.

This option provides fewer opportunities to plant shade trees, less area for habitat restoration, and would require more-intensive maintenance for flood management.

Project costs will not result in cost to Oakley residents or impact the City’s General Fund. External grant funds obtained by the City of Oakley will be used to offset project design and bridge construction costs.

Option 2: Replace the existing bridge with a longer bridge.

This project option would replace the existing bridge with a longer bridge in the same location.

This option creates more opportunities to plant shade trees, a larger area for habitat restoration, and would require less-intensive maintenance for flood management.

Project costs will not result in cost to Oakley residents or impact the City’s General Fund. External grant funds obtained by the City of Oakley will be used to offset project design and bridge construction costs.

Comparison of the two options:

The table below outlines how each of the two project options will impact maintenance required for flood management, opportunities to restore natural habitat restoration and plant shade trees, and external grant funding needed to offset project costs.

Two symbols indicates that design option will greatly improve outcomes compared to current conditions.

One symbol indicates that design option will only slightly improve outcomes compared to current conditions.
