At around 5:00 pm Thursday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a traffic accident on Highway 4 at Somersville in Antioch.
While responding, it was reported that a male had jumped out of a moving vehicle and sustained major injuries. Upon further investigation, he jumped out while at “freeway speed”. A medical helicopter was requested.
While crews were on scene, there were limited AMR units available in the area and instead of utilizing an ALS unit, they got approval to utilize a BLS unit with paramedics on board. Crews transported the male to an open field on Century Blvd for the medical helicopter.
CONFIRE provided no details on why the male jumped out of a vehicle and were unsure if the vehicle involved stopped or kept driving. As of Friday morning, there has been no update on this incident.
While crews were working this incident, also in the city of Antioch, Contra Costa County firefighters were working a fatal crash where a pregnant female and her unborn child died in a rollover crash.

This guy saw the Antioch sign and said, oh F%@k no and jumped out.
What exactly is “freeway speed” on Hwy 4. At 65 people (idiots) fly by weaving in and out. In some cases over 100. This is daily and 7 days a week.
I agree. The speeds people drive on all freeways and in particular Highway 4 are utterly ridiculous. They pass you as if you’re standing still. Unfortunately, I never see any traffic enforcement by CHP so the reckless law breakers feel emboldened to do whatever they want, jeopardizing the lives of everyone on the road.
I go the speed limit 65-68 miles. I’ve seen drivers go 80 +.. it’s terrifying
People think that speeding is going to get them 1 car ahead but it always goes sideways and they end up causing a catastrophic outcome . People dont care and vasco road in Byron is a death trap people want to go fast they should wait til it divides into 2 lanes then carry on but they think passing on double yellow lines doesn’t pertain to them they make they own road rules . Everyday there’s fatal accidents and it makes me not want to go anywhere cause it can happen in a split second and I don’t want to me play Russian roulette everytime I go somewhere
