Martinez, CA – The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors has selected Joshua Zebley as the next Veterans Service Officer (VSO). His formal appointment was approved Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Board of Supervisors meeting. His start date is Monday, Aug. 21.

The VSO oversees the Veterans Service Office, which connects local veterans and their families with federal, state, and local agencies to obtain veteran benefits.

“Our critical work helps veterans and their loved ones access resources for healthcare, pensions, insurance, home loan programs, education and career counseling, and memorials and burials, among other crucial programs,” Mr. Zebley said. “It’s my honor to serve Contra Costa County in this role and to lead such an experienced team at the Veterans Service Office.”

Mr. Zebley is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento. Since 2017, he has worked for the California Department of Veterans Affairs, most recently as a Section Chief of the California Transition Assistance Program and the Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise.

“Our veterans deserve respect and help when they return to their communities. Assisting those who served our country is one of our most important responsibilities,” said District 1 Supervisor John Gioia, Board Chair. “Mr. Zebley’s veteran experience combined with his expertise working with federal, state, and county agencies, and nongovernmental organizations, and nonprofit groups will further improve how we serve veterans in our community.”
