The California Highway Patrol reports that at approximately 1:56 am Thursday, CHP Contra Costa responded to a two vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 4 near San Marco Boulevard.
Our preliminary investigation indicates a Jeep Cherokee, with one occupant, was stopped and disabled within the center divide and fast lane due to be involved in a previous collision. A Honda Pilot, with one occupant, was traveling eastbound on SR-4 and collided into the disabled Jeep.
The driver of the Jeep sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital for suspected minor injuries. This crash is still under investigation.

I am surprised there aren’t more accidents on Highway 4. It is insane how people drive on that freeway. It isn’t unusual to see someone going 85 mph or faster weaving in and out of traffic going from the fast lane to the slow lane back and forth
I agree with Billy Davis and no longer drive on highway 4. If there is an accident, the off ramps are poorly designed and can’t handle the traffic back-up.
