On August 30 at 8:50 am, California Highway Patrol — Contra Costa attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on a Ford F350 traveling westbound on SR-4 near Bailey Road.

A DMV check of the Ford’s license plate showed the Ford was a reported stolen vehicle. The driver of the Ford failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. The CHP Officer discontinued the pursuit due to the reckless driving behavior of the driver.

Despite not being pursued, the Ford continued driving recklessly, traveling to southbound SR-242, southbound I-680 and to westbound SR-24. As the Ford approached Pleasant Hill Road, it failed to slow for stopped traffic and collided into 4 vehicles in the westbound lanes. The ford overturned and came to rest within the lanes. No parties involved in the crash were injured.

The driver of the Ford attempted to flee the scene on foot but was ultimately apprehended by CHP. The Driver was identified as George Castro, a 20 year old male out of Lathrop. Castro was arrested and booked at Martinez Detention Facility for reckless evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing the scene of a traffic collision and suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
