Quad Rider Killed in Oakley After Being Struck by Vehicle

The Oakley Police Department is investigating a vehicle crash that left a quad rider dead Tuesday morning on Neroly Road in the City of Oakley.

According to preliminary information, a vehicle collided with a person riding a quad at Neroly near Elm which threw the rider into a vineyard and was not moving just before 7:00 am. The driver of the vehicle was unsure if the person was deceased and could not see the person. Upon arrival of  Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, they located the rider and cancelled all additional resources, the rider was declared deceased on scene.

Just before 7:00 am Tuesday, the Oakley Police Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle versus quad crash in the 5200 block of Neroly Road in the City of Oakley.

Neroly Road at Elm is expected to be closed for the next several hours as Oakley Police investigate the incident.

No additional information was provided on scene as the quad rider was not identified and its unclear if speed or distracted driving was a factor. Check back for updates.

There’s been an uptick in this in my neighborhood as well. Dudes on little endos popping wheelies down the street. It’s only a matter of time before one wins a stupid prize and takes a header into somebody’s parked car; and of course nobody wears helmets. If I recall this was a big problem just before the 2008 market crash as well. Maybe history is getting ready to repeat itself?

My condolences to the grieving family. This is such a shame that it had to come to this point.

Illegal to drive quads and dirt bikes on public roads without proper registration and helmet. If he was riding illegally hope he is prosecuted properly even if dead still illegal. Quit riding illegally, no one is above the law and this guy paid his price.

2 blocks away is my house, the Nortes do donuts on every intersection to claim the territory over police. Police do no5hing to stop it.
