September 8: Good News Friday

Good News

Good News Friday returns after a Labor Day Break as readers have submitted their “good news” to share. It’s nice to have a single post of just good things happening around Contra Costa and a little bit of everything is being shared.

For future submissions, ideas include:

  • Anything positive
  • Shout out to a local business for going above and beyond
  • Family shout out (anniversary, birth, student athlete)
  • Business News — from a new business launch, an anniversary or simply a business deal)
  • Sports — could always use more of this.
  • Divorce? Kidding, but in some cases, perhaps its good news.

If you want to submit for next week, email [email protected] with the subject line “good news”.

David Hork – My brother in law surprised me by gifting me this 2001 Harley Davidson Road King. He came over to my house with his kids and his coworker to watch church at my house. After church he told me he had something to show me and walked outside. I followed shortly after and heard a Harley outside. I was really confused because him and the family drove up in his “new to him” old school Volkswagen Beetle. This motorcycle has a lot of sentimental value. My dad bought it brand new in ’01 and him and my mom used to take this bike to dinner with our other biker family and friends every Friday night. I lost my mom to stage 4 cancer at the tender age of 43, (I was 15). A few years ago my dad sold the bike to my brother in law as his health was declining and couldn’t ride anymore. We just lost my sister (who also used to enjoy riding on the back) at age 41 to interstitial lung disease July 14.  I was in complete shock how selfless this man is to give me the bike. He said “she’s in the hands of her rightful owner now.”  I don’t know how, but one day I’ll find a way to repay this man for the joy he has instilled in me.

Kelly Bennett Mykrantz — shout out to Arline Correa caught Lucca the dog today who had been missing for one week and he is home with his owner. She’s amazing!

Debora Harrigan: I’m a female senior citizen & friend of mine saw me on the bike path walking my bike, since it had a flat front tire. He offered me a ride home but it was walking distance to my place so I said I’ve got it covered. He came over the next day and replaced the tube! This person voluntarily paints interesting designs on windows downtown Martinez.

Rick Cendejas: Shout out for my Pittsburg High School classmate, fellow Mare Island Shop 31 Machinist and still one of my best friends, Ed Edward Borjon, who quietly works tirelessly to keep our local roads (Kirker Pass and Pittsburg/Antioch Highway) free of litter. I saw him yesterday along the Posco fence as I was coming from Home Depot to Downtown Pittsburg and there was zero litter from where he was all the way to Harbor Street. Please help Ed keep Pittsburg clean.

Siu Ling —  Tonight (Thursday) was a beautiful example of what it means to live here.  At the event tonight there was a patron who wasn’t doing too well.  Several people gently and respectfully stepped up to tend to them. One by one, someone different came. They helped this person up, gave them a chair to sit in, asked if they were okay, gave them food and water and made sure they weren’t alone. Then kept checking on this person.  This person wasn’t ignored, this person wasn’t just left there. This person was shown true neighborly concern, care and love.  This person was safe in a sea of neighbors.  I don’t know the names of all who helped, I wish I did because what you did was from the heart…and I thank you…..but I do know one was Kolette, who organizes events for us and the other was our very own Madame Mayor, Shanelle Scales-Preston. Thank you for being there for this person. True leadership.  This honest caring is truly what makes Pittsburg so special. The respect and genuine concern we have for one another. We take care of our own.  This is what separates us from any other place in CoCoCo.  I Love our home. And our neighbors. We are Pittsburg Proud
