“Yesterday’s operations were part of the vision we all had when we committed ourselves to becoming a fully staffed police department with specialized units. My officers can now engage in the type of work that may normally go unnoticed or undone. It is this type of work and this attention to detail that provides a greater opportunity for us to help create safer neighborhoods for our hard working and law-abiding residents. I applaud the members of the (SST) for committing themselves to interact and network with other local, and state agencies so this type of work gets done. I respect the work that still needs to be done in large and ongoing cases like these and I look forward to hearing about the end result of all of these efforts. If any information is developed that I can further share with the community I will be sure to do so.”
Thank you and keep being safe Oakley.” ~Chief Paul Beard
Editors Note
In the City of Antioch, a grow house caught fire in the 5300 block of Navajo Tuesday at approximately 9:50 pm which sent flames through the roof and causing Contra Costa County Firefighters to go into defensive fire attack. This comes after several commenters on our photographs questioned why law enforcement targets grow houses–last nights fire is an example as to why.

Oakley should take over APD, let the mayor and council run the day to day operations. Lamar can take care of the homeless. Feed, water and clean up after them. Way to go Oakley.
Kudos to law enforcement. Now about those arrests…
We should be thankful that these officers are willing to sacrifice so much in a life and death job to protect a public that is too stupid and selfish to appreciate them. If you hate on cops then don’t call 911 when you need help.
Thank you to the editor for pointing out the potential results of these illegal grow houses. I live in the house literally right next to one of the houses in this bust and I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with the situation pictured above. The houses are all max. 10 feet away and it could be my house and family that becomes collateral damage if a fire occurred. I can personally vouch for the shoddy electrical outside the house- yes, it is not to code, exposed wire nuts, no electrical boxes, extension cords ran instead of conduit, poked through a hole in the stucco. If it was shoddy outside, I’m sure whatever they rigged up inside was just as bad. The selfishness of these folks tying to make money costs others when something goes bad. You never think about how things effect others- even myself I hadn’t really given the fire danger much thought.
And the tenants were clueless and spoke no english. I had to help them with Google Translate when their water main broke a couple months back. It had been going for some time, they did nothing; even when it became a river flowing down their walkway.
Didn’t we legalize it to eliminate illegal growling? I guess that didn’t work as intended, like every law they pump out.
