CHP Says Antioch Man Dies in Wrong-Way Crash on I-580

The California Highway Patrol says an 18-year-old Antioch man and Fort Bragg female have died after a head-on vehicle crash on Interstate 580.

On March 31, 2024, at approximately 2:04 am, a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound, the wrong-way, in the #1 lane of Interstate 580 westbound, west of Corral Hollow Road. A Kia Telluride was traveling on Interstate 580 westbound, west of Corral Hollow Road, in the #1 lane, approaching the Honda. As a result, the Honda and Kia crashed head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn.

The driver of the Honda, 18 year old male from the City of Antioch, was ejected into the center median and pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Kia, 32 year old female from Fort Bragg, was transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A 35 year old passenger and two month old female infant passenger from the Kia sustained major injuries and were transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment.

A four year old male passenger from the Kia sustained minor injuries and was transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment.

It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the cause of this crash. The identity of the deceased will be released by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office pending next of kin notification.

All lanes of I-580 westbound were closed and traffic was diverted onto Corral Hollow Road during the investigation. All lanes were re-opened at approximately 0545 hours.
