Martinez Special Events

On Wednesday, the Martinez City Council will receive a report and provide feedback on its 2024 Special Events Calendar.

The goal is to provide feedback on a possible sponsorship package aimed at fundraising for recreation activities and cultural events held throughout the year.  This follows a January study session which provided an overview of  special event process, opportunities to streamline and improve the process, and a recap of prior year events. The study session also briefly touched on City-organized events that take place on a recurring basis.

According to the staff report, since this study session, the City Council also approved bolstering the cultural event grant to ensure that the organizers of the Lunar New Year, Juneteenth and Pride events each receive a grant of $5,000. Other signature events made possible through City grants include Art in the Park ($1,000), Beaver Festival ($1,000), and Earth Day ($2,500). In addition, the City has provided both Downtown Martinez & Company and the Martinez Chamber of Commerce with one-time funds totaling $110,000 for Fiscal Year 2023-24, which has enabled those organizations to organize and host community events.

Staff opened the 2024 special event application process in January and have thus far confirmed the date, location and time for 38 special events. These events are in varying stages of the planning and permitting process. In addition, plans for 14 events organized and hosted by the Community and Recreation Services Division have been finalized and are calendared

Special Event Sponsorship Package
The city has drafted a special events sponsorship package which range from $499 and below to a platinum level sponsor at from $1,500 to $2,499.  – see details.
