The Antioch Police Department is investigating a fatal truck versus pedestrian that occurred overnight in the City of Antioch.

Elderly Female Drives Through Crash Scene

While police were on scene and had the road blocked off, an elderly female drove through the police block, over the cones and nearly ran over the body of the person in the roadway.

According to sources on scene, she sped eastbound around the road block and past bright red flares, Police cars with lights, and ran over orange traffic cones A total of five Antioch police officers were chasing after her car on foot and we were all yelling for her to stop before she ran over the body. She even came with inches of side swiping a police car that was blocking the street as she tried to slide past the police cruiser and the center medium curb.

The elderly female was apparently confused and disoriented. Antioch Police ended up impounding her vehicle and gave her a courtesy ride home

11:30 am UPDATE via Antioch PD

On June 23rd at approximately 10:33 PM, officers were dispatched to the report of an auto versus pedestrian collision on Lone Tree Way near Black Diamond Drive. When officers arrived, they located the pedestrian, a 71 year old male resident of Antioch, suffering from life threatening injuries.  Unfortunately, the man did not survive and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the vehicle that collided with the pedestrian remained on scene and cooperated in the investigation.

The preliminary investigation and witness statements revealed that the man was crossing Lone Tree Way, in the crosswalk, against the don’t walk signal when the collision occurred.  Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision and the man’s identity is being withheld pending notification to his next of kin.

The Antioch Police Departments Traffic Division is handling this investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Josh Egan at 925-204-1587 or [email protected].

I drove by this scene last night and noticed that there was only 1 patrol car blocking 1 of the 2 eastbound lanes, no crime scene tape was being used, and the traffic lights were running in their usual cycle. Maybe if the traffic lights were flashing red, crime scene tape was used, and vehicles were used to block both lanes, then the elderly woman would not have drove through the scene. When I drove by in the opposite direction, I could not tell there was a body in the road until I was roughly 20 ft. away. There were no floodlights utilized and no patrol cars with lights flashing directly at the scence. Just the one partially blocking the road a few hundred ft. from the victim. Why impound her vehicle? That scene should have been secured in a way that completely prevented anyone from entering it. I drove by sometime around 0030. 2 hours is more than enough time to get it secured properly. There were 2 additional patrol cars with lights on at the next intersection after the downed pedestrian and neither one was preventing cars from driving down any road. APD should give the lady her car back and realize that they themselves could have prevented her from driving into the unlit and unmarked scene. Which officers were on scene last night? They need retrained on how to secure a scene.

Jared, I don’t think you understand what happened. I was there, I quite literally saw it happen. THE WHOLE thing, INCLUDING that woman. There was 2 2 police cars, lights, crime scene tape, and police blocking the entire intersection except for the turning lane. The old woman got into the turning lane, and instead turning or making a u turn, she contained to go straight into the crime scene almost hitting the police car and feet away from the body. get your facts straight jared, and stop trying be a mr know it all.

My comment is awaiting approval? Really? What kind of freedom of speech is that? I hope my comments that simply state my observations and opinions are approved. Even if those comments are criticizing our police officers, we should not have to wait for our freedoms to be approved. That is not freedom.

apd should be so quick to impound the folks that take over intersections for their illegal acts. Oh , that’s right , they have to get permission from the mayor and a couple of the council women , might be their kinfolk, IMO.

I commented with my own observations from the time I drove by at 0030. I saw; No flashing red traffic lights, no tape and only 1 lane blocked. This is what I saw.

I’m new here. What kind of comments will not be approved?

Hey E,
I never claimed to know it all, but I do claim to know what I saw. Are you telling me that what I saw never actually happened?

It doesn’t take much brain power to see that he obviously didn’t get to the scene until it was all over with.
