12 Victims Targeted by Burglars Wednesday in Discovery Bay

Crime

On Wednesday, the Town of Discovery Bay was hit with multiple burglaries which prompted the town to issue a warning to residents.

Alert!

Last night, there were several auto burglaries and a few garage burglaries in our community.

The suspects came into our town in a stolen vehicle and entered several unlocked cars as well as entering vehicles via window-smash.

The suspects ransacked cars looking for valuables and even used the portable garage door openers left inside the vehicles to open the victim’s garage doors to commit additional theft.

As a reminder, do not leave portable garage door openers in your vehicle if it’s parked outside. Remove or hide valuables inside your vehicle so would-be thieves have no reason to break into your vehicle.

The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office is diligently working this case.

If any resident has camera footage of any burglaries or suspicious activities, please contact the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch (925) 646-2441 to provide them with additional leads to these incidents.

According to Assistant General Manager Allan Cantando, he confirmed they have had at least 12 victims but the number could be higher as more crime reports potentially come in.

“Based on the NextDoor posts, most of the victims were vehicle burglaries only, but some victims had their garage remotes in their vehicles which allowed the suspects to enter the garages and commit thefts,” said Cantando.  “We do not have camera footage, but some residents posted on NextDoor the footage of the suspects outside their home and in their garage.”

He added that the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has been very responsive to the Town regarding the burglaries as well as enforcement on shoplifters and traffic complaints.

“We are very happy with the cooperation we are getting from the Sheriff’s Office” said Cantando.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff has not responded to questions on the incident and have not provided details.
