The following is a sampling of the Brentwood Police Calls reported between September 30 – October 4 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of Brentwood.

Update: Brentwood Police Officer Stabbed by 16-Year-Old

On October 11, 2023, at about 5:35 p.m. officers responded to a report of a subject in the area of Brentwood City Park armed with a kitchen knife.

The caller reported that, at times, the subject appeared to be taunting other people with the knife. As Brentwood Police officers arrived on scene, they contacted the male, a 16-year-old juvenile. After numerous attempts to de-escalate the situation an officer moved in to detain the juvenile. As he did, the juvenile stabbed the officer. A bystander assisted other officers in physically detaining the juvenile, who was subsequently taken into custody.

The officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local hospital. Police have determined that there are no outstanding subjects and there is no threat to the general public. This case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information, please contact Detective Goold at 925-809-7872.

Statement on Brentwood Police Video

I’ve been asked over and over again why this site has not posted a video of a Brentwood Police Officer being stabbed in its coverage of the events that took place yesterday. The simple answer is it’s not necessary.

It involved a crime that occurred on a police officer and it was believed the suspect was a minor—which Brentwood Police confirmed later in a press release the suspect was a 16 y/o. The suspect is also in custody.

I know many will accuse me of being a hypocrite because I posted a message of juveniles on bicycles playing games of chicken with vehicles—one I almost hit by the way—but no crime had taken place, it was a public service announcement someone was going to get hit or killed. No one wants to see that story ever play out.

Yesterday was different. A violent crime had just occurred, and video was posted to social media very quickly of the incident—during an ongoing police investigation and during a time of chaos. From a human element side, family, friends, coworkers do not need to observe a stabbing in a video.

If I wanted clicks, views, and a few extra bucks, sure I’d of posted the video. But the video provides no further understanding of the story and posting it actually does more harm than good in the form of unintended consequences—such as impact on a community and the legal system as two examples.

If you want to see the video, I am sure you can find it and may view it. If you feel like you must see it and share it out with others, just ask yourself why? What value does it bring to you? How does it impact you? How will posting it impact others?

Having been in this business for more than a decade, some things you will never unsee, trust me on that.

What about showing a video of a female screaming at Brentwood police. Again, what value does that bring? None. Its sensationalism and click bait.

Ultimately, should Brentwood Police decide to release any body camera footage or images, they will go up–hopefully with more context as to why it may have transpired or what led up to it. But only when it has no impact on the investigation. My simple ask is to please stop posting the video in the comment sections. I will continue to delete it when I see it.

Thank you for understanding.

I agree with your comment above. I also find interesting how many people grab their phone and start recording this incident versus helping the officer on scene. I’ve seen this very many crimes and even accidents on the side of the road where you can obviously tell someone has died but you got some idiots on the sidelines recording it. This is why Society is going to sh@t!
