Councilmember Teresa Gerringer announced Friday that she will resign her position on the Lafayette City Council effective January 23, 2024 due to family reasons.

In her letter of resignation, Gerringer said:

“It has been my honor to serve the residents of Lafayette for almost 23 years, first as an elected member of the Lafayette School District Governing Board and for the last five years as an elected member of the Lafayette City Council.

Thank you to the residents of Lafayette for allowing me to represent and work with them, my colleagues on the Council, the excellent Lafayette City staff, the business community, the schools, students, parents, and teachers, and the many committed volunteers and community organizations, all who work together to protect and enhance the quality of life in Lafayette.

Public service, leadership, solving problems, and helping others has been the most fulfilling professional and volunteer work that I have done.”

The City Council will discuss next steps to fill the seat at the next regular City Council meeting in January.

Congratulations, Teresa Gerringer, on your Retirement!

Supervisor Diane Burgis issued the following statement:

This week, my District 3 staff team, my fellow supervisors and I all recognized my Chief of Staff, Teresa Gerringer, on her upcoming retirement at the end of the year.

Teresa joined my office in 2019 as the District 3 Communications Director, and played a major role in Contra Costa’s 2020 census work. In June 2022, she became Chief of Staff for the office, a role in which she managed staff and provided policy research and recommendations on nearly every county-related issue.

Teresa had a tremendous career before joining my office as well. She worked for years in the private sector at Security Pacific Venture Capital, and served as State Senator Steve Glazer’s District Director from 2015 to 2019. She was a Lafayette School District trustee for 18 years before joining the Lafayette City Council, where she continues to serve. Her roles on the school board and city council (including as mayor in 2022) have given her the opportunity to have a regional impact on transportation, education and planning.

Most importantly, Teresa has been a friend through my personal highs and lows for the past five years.

Thank you, Teresa, for your years of accomplishments for Contra Costa County, and best of luck in retirement!
