Updated: Church Hit with Graffiti in Brentwood

The Brentwood Police Department is investigating vandalism of a church on Highland Way in the City of Brentwood that was the target of graffiti.

The incident occurred sometime Thursday morning at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where the brick building was spray painted.  The graffiti is urging the church to divest away from companies such as Amazon, Google, JP Morgan and others. It also claimed the church invests in genocide.

A of Thursday afternoon, a company was pressure washing the graffiti while no statements have been released by the church.

The Brentwood Police Department responded to the church, but have not released any statements nor clarified if this was classified as a “hate crime”.

Brentwood, CA- On June 6th, 2024, around 07:00AM, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Highland Way for a church that had been vandalized. When officers arrived, they found that the church had been spray painted with, “Avenge al
Aqsa, LDS invest in genocide ur tithes takes lives, free congo sudan invest in, divest invest from exxon meta apple jp morgan amazon google.” Officers also located two broken windows to the church.

Preliminary evidence suggest that the incident occurred overnight and in addition, no entry was made inside the building.

The Walnut Creek LDS Church on Overlook Dr was also vandalized with similar verbiage as well as the front door entrance shattered

There is a very real chance the perpetrator(s) looked up this info on their iPhone
