On Tuesday, December 6th, the City of Pinole installed new Council Members, a Mayor, and Mayor Pro Tem.
New Mayor Devin T. Murphy has served as Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Pinole over the past year. Since being elected to the City Council in 2020, Devin has expressed that he values a citywide participatory budgeting process, small business growth, and progress on regional climate action. He is also experienced as a small business owner and civic technologist. Devin is the City’s first African American mayor.
Maureen Toms is a lifelong Pinole resident and has served as a Pinole City Council Member from 2015-2018 and from 2020-2022. She has been a land use planner, specializing in land use policy, transit-oriented development, affordable housing, and infrastructure for a local jurisdiction for over 30 years. She brings her work experience to her role as council member in Pinole. She has contributed over 28 years of community service and civic experience to Pinole. Maureen is the new Mayor Pro Tempore.
Cameron Sasai was newly elected to the City Council. He is the first Filipino American Council Member elected to the Pinole City Council. He serves as a Board Member of the Rotary Club of Pinole and an Interact Advisor to the student leaders at Pinole Valley High School. He describes himself as a community advocate who pushes for policies that focus on safety and inclusion.
Anthony L. Tave was re-elected after serving on the Pinole City Council from 2018 – 2022. He moved to Pinole because he believes that the town has character and is a neighborly community. Anthony has a civil engineering background and experience with asset management. Over the past year he has pushed initiatives involving public safety, housing, and public services.
Norma Martinez-Rubin was re-elected after serving on the Pinole City Council from 2018-2022. She was mayor in 2020-2021. She serves on the Cal Cities Revenue and Taxation Policy Committee, Pinole Thriving Earth Exchange Project, and the Pinole Historical Society Board of Directors. Her professional background is in public health and program evaluation.
Vincent Salimi, former Mayor of Pinole from 2021-2022, did not seek reelection. During his tenure on the Council, he sought common sense solutions that helped move the City forward. He was particularly interested in economic development, City revenue growth, public safety, and quality of life.
