Danville Declares Local Emergency Due to Storms and Flooding

Press Release

by CC News
Danville

The Town of Danville has proclaimed a local emergency due to severe storms expected this week, following flooding and mudslides after the December 31 storm.

Acting in the capacity of Director of Emergency Services, Town Manager Joe Calabrigo signed the proclamation just before noon, and it will expire at noon on January 10. The local emergency proclamation allows the town greater flexibility to contract for and procure supplies for more expedient disaster response.

The Town has deployed all available maintenance staff and contractors for clean-up ahead of a second atmospheric river storm expected January 4. Crews have been able to re-open roadways after clearing thick mud from flooded areas. Town engineers are also out along Diablo Road between Fairway Drive and Alameda Diablo, where the storm caused erosion along the eastbound side of the road. At this time, Diablo Road is open to one-way traffic only. As a safety precaution, motorists should avoid the area.

Town maintenance staff regularly inspect and clear creeks and storm inlets managed by the Town, and the creek system in Danville is managed by a combination of private homeowners and Contra Costa County. The system flowed smoothly, but was simply overwhelmed by nearly 5 inches of rain in 24 hours, causing overflow.
