The El Cerrito Police Department announced an arrest has been made in a April 23 homicide in the city of El Cerrito.
El Cerrito Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide of 18-year-old Sincere Martin. Martin was murdered in the 900 block of Galvin Drive in El Cerrito on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Callers in the area reported gun shots at 4:32 pm.
On May 3, 2023, police arrested Malachi Cox, a 21-year-old man from Oakland, in connection with the murder. Cox was arrested in Citrus Heights. The Oakland Police Department Cease Fire Unit, the Oakland Police Department Intelligence Unit, and the U.S. Marshalls were instrumental in helping the El Cerrito Police Department locate Cox. Cox was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez.
Cox is associated with a 4-door white Toyota and fled westbound on Stockton Avenue from Galvin Drive. The ECPD is asking all residents and businesses on Stockton Avenue with security cameras to review footage around the time of the incident for video of the suspect and his vehicle.
