The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between March 24-30 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from March 24th to March 30th.

March 24th 

  • Fighting in Public – 11224 San Pablo Ave. (Tashi Delek Cuisine): At 6:07 PM, officers responded to a location for a report of two groups fighting in the business. Statements of the fight were taken and forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.
  • Vandalism / Attempt Theft / Criminal Threats – 11545 San Pablo Ave. (Ross): At 8:09 PM, an officer reports the suspect was attempting to remove the security tags from merchandise when the security guard confronted him. The suspect brandished a small knife and made several threats. As the suspect was leaving, he threw a metal bolt at a window located in the front of the business causing damage. Officers located the suspect as he was trying to leave the area. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and later released on a citation.
  • Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run – 10400 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 12:34 AM, officers responded to the area for a vehicle collision. While en-route, dispatch advised the suspect had fled and citizens were following him. Officers responded to the location and located the suspect. After a DUI investigation, officers determined the suspect was under the influence. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the suspect was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
  • Driving Under the Influence – 11400 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 2:37 AM, officers were dispatched to an intoxicated subject at Safeway. Officers contacted the subject who stated they had driven to Safeway. After the DUI investigation, officers determined the driver was under the influence. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was released on a citation.

March 25th

  • Theft of License Plates – 800 block of Elm St. At 10:06 AM, the victim reported that a suspect stole the front license plate off their vehicle.
  • Arrest for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle – 10794 San Pablo Ave. (Marshalls): At 5:16 PM, officers arrested a suspect after he drove a reported stolen vehicle into the parking lot.  The suspect was arrested on scene, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

March 26th

  • Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 7:13 AM, security guards attempted to stop a suspect from leaving with unpaid merchandise.  The suspect threatened security and ran away prior to police arrival.
  • Theft – 11319 San Pablo Ave. (Chevron): At 12:34 PM, an ex-employee entered the store and stole unknown types of documents from behind the counter of the business.
  • Battery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s): At 2:17 PM, a suspect shoved an employee before leaving the store.
  • Driving Under the Influence – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 1:58 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the DUI investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence. Further investigation found the driver to be on DUI probation. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later released to a sober friend.

March 27th

  • Vandalism – 11940 San Pablo Ave. (Laundromat): At 1:25 AM, an officer reports a suspect shattered multiple windows and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box): At 4:42 AM, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle reported stolen to Richmond PD. The vehicle was released to the owner at the scene.

March 28th

  • Drunk in Public and Child Endangerment – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s): At 12:44 PM, a suspect was arrested after a citizen saw them stumbling and falling asleep inside the store while pushing a child in a stroller.  During the investigation, the suspect admitted to consuming alcohol to officers and showed objective signs of being under the influence.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  The child was released to family members.

March 29th

  • Vehicle Tampering – 2200 block of Humboldt Ave. At 7:17 AM, officers were dispatched to a report of subjects trying door handles and breaking into vehicles.  An officer reports the suspects entered one vehicle, and a second vehicle had the driver door handle broken in an apparent attempt to enter.
  • Driving Under the Influence – 11821 San Pablo Ave. (MacDonalds): At 2:55 AM, officers responded to a subject asleep in a vehicle in the drive-thru.  During the investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence.  The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later released to a sober friend.

March 30th

  • Possess Stolen Vehicle / VIN Tampering / Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Central Ave. / San Mateo St. 
    At 2:51 PM, a FLOCK hit was received for a stolen vehicle entering the city.  Officers located and stopped the vehicle. The driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The owner of the vehicle was notified.
