The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between March 31-April 6 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from March 31st to April 6th.

March 31st

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Hill St.
At 11:40 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and learned the subject had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.  The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

April 1st

Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway):
At 10:30 AM, a subject was confronted by Safeway management and security. The subject shoved security and was pepper sprayed as a result. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Battery / Resist Arrest – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s): 
At 11:13 AM, officers responded to a report of a security guard at Walgreen’s detaining a shoplifter.  When the suspect entered the store, the suspect immediately became irate and aggressively confrontational, striking the security guard several times. An officer arrived and attempted to assist with taking the suspect into custody.  The suspect tried to pull away, disobeyed orders and tried to pull the officer to the ground.  The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and cited.

Burglary – 1100 block of Lawrence Ct.
A suspect stole an item from an open garage sometime between 12:25 PM – 2:25 PM.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit & Run / Evading / Obstruction / Assault and Battery on Peace Officer – San Pablo Ave. / Manila Ave.
At 10:15 PM, officers observed a vehicle driving with no front tire after appearing to have been in an accident.  The victim reported the suspect had just collided into their vehicle and drove away.  Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. Although the driver initially stopped, the driver continued driving away.  Officers were able to get the vehicle stopped. A DUI Investigation was initiated, and the driver was found to be heavily intoxicated. The suspect was then arrested and booked in the El Cerrito Police Department. During the booking process, the suspect attempted to hit an officer and spat on another officer.  The suspect was later transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

April 2nd

Nothing to report.

April 3rd

Burglary – 1700 block of Ganges Ave.
The victim reports that while asleep, a suspect pried open their front door of their residence and stole items sometime between 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM on 04/04/2024.

Theft of Mail – 2000 block of Key Blvd.
At 4:04 PM, a suspect opened the victim’s mailbox and stole mail.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

Fraud – 5800 block of El Dorado St.
At 6:00 PM, the victim reported several accounts were fraudulently opened without their permission.

Robbery – Central Ave. / Kearney St.
At 10:07 PM, the victim reported being robbed by three juvenile suspects while walking in the area. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.

Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Hagen Blvd.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen between 3:00 PM – 9:00 AM on 04/04/2024.

April 4th

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 10:45 AM, a suspect was arrested for shoplifting and later released on a citation.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 11:55 AM, a suspect stole merchandise and fled the store prior to police arrival.

Robbery – Moeser Ln. / Elm Ct.
At 10:25 PM, the victim reported being robbed by two juvenile suspects as they walked home.

April 5th

Tampering with a Vehicle – 9900 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 1:16 AM, officers responded to the area for a subject armed with a tool and possibly breaking into vehicles.

Warrant Arrest – 9900 Block of San Pablo Ave.
At 2:14 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for having an outstanding warrant. The driver was then taken to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking and was later released on a citation.

April 6th

Vehicle Theft – 1700 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 7:17 AM, a vehicle was stolen from the street.

Vehicle Theft – 1700 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 7:46 AM, the suspects returned in the same suspect vehicle and stole another vehicle.

Robbery / Resist Officer / Battery on Officer – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 2:19 PM, a suspect stole merchandise from the store. When confronted by store staff, the suspect violently assaulted an employee. When officers arrived on scene and attempted to contact the suspect in the parking lot, the suspect violently assaulted the officers. The suspect was later arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft – 3000 block of Yolo Ave.
At 3:21 PM, the victim reports their rear license plate from their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
