The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito between February 25 – March 2 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

These El Cerrito Police Calls does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

El Cerrito Police Calls

February 18th

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Peerless Ave. / Cutting Blvd.
    At 10:33 PM, officers patrolling in the area encountered an occupied suspicious vehicle. During the investigation, an officer located a bag of suspected methamphetamine. The subject was arrested, cited, and released.

February 19th

  • Vandalism – 1300 block of Richmond St. At 6:59 AM, an officer reports a suspect shattered the window of the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight.
  • Vehicle Theft – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave. At 8:35 AM, an officer reports a vehicle was stolen from the street sometime overnight.  The vehicle was recovered in Antioch later in the day.
  • Organized Retail Theft – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens): At 8:36 PM, an officer reports six juveniles entered the store and stole merchandise.
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 3160 Carlson Blvd. (76 Gas Station): At 1:23 AM, officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance. The reporting party advised two subjects were possibly breaking into a donation bin. Officers arrived on scene and located one of the subjects. During the investigation an officer located a glass pipe in the possession of the subject. The subject was arrested, cited, and released.

February 20th

  • Theft by False Pretenses – 1800 block of Ganges Ave. At 9:40 AM, the victim purchased a guitar from the suspect online.  The suspect never sent the victim the guitar and blocked all contact from the victim.
  • Shoplifting – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketchers): At 4:26 PM, a suspect entered the store and stole merchandise.
  • Vandalism – 6700 Block of Glen Mawr Ave. At 6:22 PM, the victim reported a suspect threw a rock through the front window of their residence.

February 21st

  • Brandishing a Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Threats, Concealing a Knife – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s): At 8:21 AM, an employee asked the female suspect to exit the men’s restroom.  The suspect pulled a knife out, pointed at the employee, threatened to harm the employee and began walking towards them.  The employee immediately called 911.   Officers arrived, arrested the suspect, and located the knife concealed on the suspect’s person.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Shoplifting – 10680 San Pablo Ave. (O’Reilly Auto Parts): At 8:57 AM, a suspect entered the store and stole merchandise.
  • Petty Theft – 500 block of Clayton Ave. At 9:09 AM, the victim reports that their rear license plate was stolen off their vehicle.
  • Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 10:13 AM, as the victim walked into the store, the suspect struck the victim unprovoked.  The victim was transported to the hospital. The suspect fled towards the Del Norte BART station prior to police arrival.
  • Attempted Residential Burglary – 5400 Block of Zara Ave. At 12:10 AM, officers responded to a prowler in the backyard of the residence.  Upon arrival the suspect was gone.  The suspect attempted to kick in the front door and appeared to have been scared off by the owner.

February 22nd

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, Drug Paraphernalia, and Burglary Tools – 11319 San Pablo Ave. (Chevron Gas Station): At 8:15 AM, the suspect fell asleep in their vehicle while at the gas pump.  The suspect was in possession of a glass pipe and methamphetamines.  During an investigation, officers located shaved keys and burglary tools in the vehicle.  The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
  • Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 300 block of Carmel Ave.   At 8:20 AM, an officer located an unoccupied vehicle parked in the area. The vehicle was recovered, and the owner was contacted.
  • Auto Burglary – 2000 block of Harper St. At 11:47 AM, the victim reports that the rear window to their vehicle was shattered and miscellaneous items were stolen.

February 23rd

  • Felony Evading – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln. At 12:06 AM, an officer noticed a FLOCK activation for a stolen vehicle. The officer circulated the area and located the stolen vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a felony vehicle stop and the driver led officers on a pursuit into Oakland. While in pursuit, officers lost sight of the vehicle.
  • Driving Under the Influnce – San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave: At 2:36 AM, an officer was flagged down regarding a suspicious person. An officer contacted the subject and determined the subject had just driven to the location and was under the influence. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the El Cerrito Police station for booking. After booking, the subject was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

February 24th

  • Vandalism – 6400 Waldo Ave:  At 12:32 PM, an officer reports a suspect punched the door locks and shattered the windows of the victim’s pickup truck sometime overnight.
  • Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run / Resist Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Van Fleet Ave. At 1:21 PM, officers were dispatched to an injury collision involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, a vehicle was unoccupied blocking the roadway with the driver walking away. The driver was later detained and found during investigation to have an odor of an alcoholic beverage. The suspect fled on foot from the scene and a brief foot pursuit ensued. The suspect was taken into custody, transported to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for medical clearance and later cited.

February 25th

  • Possession of Stolen Vehicle / Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 10944 San Pablo Ave.
    At 5:20 PM, officers were dispatched to a disturbance over a resident parking space. When officers arrived, officers found the vehicle to be stolen out of Las Vegas.  An officer located the suspect in the Harbor Freight parking lot. The suspect was taken into custody, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

February 26th

  • Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24hour Fitness): At 9:21 AM, a victim reports that their wallet was stolen from a locker and their credit cards were used.
  • Vandalism – Wildwood Pl. The victim reports that on February 25th between 8:54 AM and 2:06 PM, a suspect damaged the door handle to their side garage door.
  • Battery – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24hour Fitness): At 10:35 AM, an employee asked the suspect to leave the women’s locker room. The suspect became upset, pushed the employee, and fled the business on foot towards San Pablo Ave.
  • Shoplifting – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 11:29 AM, a suspect stole merchandise and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Theft from Auto – 1300 block of Navellier St. At 1:25 PM, the victim reports a suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole miscellaneous items.  The suspect fled the area in another vehicle.
  • Strong Armed Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s): At 3:58 PM, six subjects entered the store wearing ski masks, filled bags with store merchandise, and exited the store without paying.  One of the suspects pushed a store employee onto the ground.
  • Hit and Run with Injuries – Potrero Ave. / Liberty St. At 5:07 PM, the suspect vehicle ran over the victim’s foot while the victim was walking in the crosswalk. The suspect did not stop and fled.

February 27th

  • Trespassing/Drunk in Public/Obstruct Police Officer – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s):
    At 2:25 PM, a suspect was refused business by the restaurant manager. During investigation, the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and refused to cooperate with officers.  The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

February 28th

  • Theft of License Plates – 1700 block of Manor Circle. At 9:21 AM, an officer learned that the victim was driving their vehicle with a different license plate attached. The license plate attached was from a reported stolen vehicle.  The officer collected the license plate.
  • Stolen Vehicle/Burglary Tools/ Possess Controlled Substance – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway): At 10:20 AM, the city’s license plate reader system (FLOCK) alerted officers to a stolen vehicle traveling in El Cerrito. Officers located the vehicle parked unoccupied in the Safeway parking lot.  As soon as the suspect returned to the vehicle, the suspect was taken into custody.  The juvenile suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to Children and Family Services.
  • Battery – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave. At 10:59 AM, the victim was riding their electric scooter when they collided with a child. The child’s mother got upset and struck the victim several times.  The victim fled the area and called the police an hour later.
  • Criminal Threats – 11555 San Pablo Ave. (DD’ s Discounts): At 11:59 AM, a former employee entered the store, walked up to the manager and threatened the manager.

February 29th

  • Nothing to report.

March 1st

  • Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness): At 2:35 PM, an officer took a report of theft of personal property between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

March 2nd

  • Driving Under the Influence – 1300 block of Contra Costa Dr.: At 8:23 AM, an officer arrested a subject after the subject was involved in a collision. The subject was taken to Kaiser Hospital and cited.
  • Attempt Vehicle Theft– 6600 block of Blake St.: At 9:57 AM, an officer reports a suspect punched the door locks to enter the victim’s vehicle sometime overnight. The suspect damaged the ignition in an apparent unsuccessful attempt to steal the vehicle.
  • Vehicle Theft – 700 block of Colusa Ave: At 5:12 PM, an officer reports a vehicle was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle hit on FLOCK system between 3:10 AM and 3:20 AM.
