1 Dead in Early Morning Crash in San Pablo

San Pablo, CA – On Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 2:21AM, San Pablo police officers responded to the area of San Pablo Avenue and 23rd Street regarding a solo vehicle traffic collision.

Upon arrival, SPPD officers located a silver Toyota sedan with major front-end damage. Emergency medical services were summoned as officers initiated life-saving efforts for the adult male driver (solo occupant of the vehicle).

Tragically, the driver succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue, north of 23rd Street, when it veered off the roadway and collided with a concrete pillar on the west curb line of San Pablo Avenue.

The cause of this collision remains under investigation, and it is unknown if intoxication is a contributing factor at this time. Southbound lanes of San Pablo Avenue, between Road 20 and 23rd Street, are temporarily closed to all traffic as SPPD Traffic Investigators process the scene.

The identity of the driver is being withheld, pending notifications to next of kin.
