Box Truck Rams Richmond Police Vehicle Nearly Crushing Officer

by CC News

The Richmond Police Department says an officer was nearly crushed by a box truck Monday after a box truck attempted to flee.

According to police, a Richmond police officer on patrol saw a large box truck fail to stop at a stop sign. The officer attempted to stop the truck and quickly learned the truck had been reported stolen. The vehicle initially pulled over in the area of Esplanade Dr and Scooner Dr.

The driver then purposely reversed into the officer’s patrol car, rammed it, and pushed it backward while the officer was trapped inside. The driver of the truck then attempted to drive over the hood of the patrol vehicle, but it became lodged on top of the hood of the patrol vehicle.

Despite the driver’s desperate attempts to dislodge his truck from the hood of the patrol car, he could not get it moved. The driver fled from the truck on foot, with officers chasing him. Officers lost sight of the suspect and quickly established a perimeter to prevent him from fleeing. Officers utilized an RPD K9 team to safely locate the suspect hiding in a nearby yard.

The suspect refused to give up and was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Richmond Police says the officer was not injured in this incident.

The suspect, who was not identified, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also determined to be on active probation for possession of stolen vehicle, and to have active felony warrants for his arrest.

A perfect example of why K-9 resources, which the progressive liberals want to ban, are needed.
