The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from November 12th to November 18th.
November 12th
Petty Theft – 1400 block of Liberty St:
At 11:20 AM, an officer reports the front license plate to the victim’s vehicle was stolen overnight.
Robbery – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker):
At 12:59 PM, an unidentified suspect stole merchandise from the store. He pushed the manger away, after the manager attempted to block him from leaving, and fled on foot.
Driving Under the Influence- Alta Punta Ave/Gloria St:
At 6:34 PM, officers responded to a collision. Upon arrival, officers discovered a driver had collided into two parked vehicles. Officers smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and conducted a DUI investigation. Officers determined the driver was under the influence and placed the driver under arrest. The driver was transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
Robbery- 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonalds):
At 10:32 PM, an officer reports the suspect attempted to order food from the business but was short on funds. The suspect became upset when he was denied service and started a disturbance. When an employee attempted to call 911 the suspect took the employee’s cellphone. Another employee was able to retrieve the phone back.
Vandalism- 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box):
At 2:04 AM, an officer reports unknown suspect(s) shot BB’s at the business causing damage to the windows.
Vandalism- 3090 El Cerrito Plaza (Starbucks):
At 4:59 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed out a glass door with a rock.
November 13th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 900 block of Pomona Ave:
At 8:10 AM, a Community Service Officer recovered a vehicle reported stolen to Berkeley PD on 11/6/23.
Recovered stolen vehicle / Possess Stolen Property / Evading / Unlicensed Driver / Resist Officer – Arlington Blvd / Thors Bay:
At 8:55 AM, offiecrs were made aware of a vehicle that was reported stolen to the Oakland PD and the owner had tracked it to this location. An officer located the occupied vehicle parked on Arlington Blvd across from Arlington Park and watched it while waiting for additional units. The vehicle fled, and a short pursuit ensued, ending at the dead end of King Ct. The passenger was taken into custody as she attempted to walk away from the vehicle. The driver fled into the Hillside Natural Area. He was later apprehended as he exited the natural area onto city streets, via several residential yards and fences. Both juveniles were booked at ECPD and then released to parents.
Vandalism – 10576 San Pablo Ave (Leon Hair Cutters):
At 10:03 AM, a Community Service Officer reports an unidentified suspect threw a large chunk of concrete through the front window of the shop sometime overnight. The entire front window shattered, but the hole was not large enough for entry.
Vandalism – 6323 Stockton Ave:
At 12:56 PM, an unidentified suspect threw a chunk of concrete through the right rear window of a vehicle.
Robbery – 10000 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 12:07 AM, an officer reports the victim was walking in the area when the suspect approached him from behind and took his backpack. The victim chased the suspect a short distance and stopped when the suspect threatened to fight him. The suspect then entered a nearby home. Officers contacted the occupants of the home and located a subject matching the suspect’s description. An infield show-up was conducted and the suspect was positively identified. The victim’s property was located at the scene and returned to the victim. After the suspect was booked at the ECPD he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
November 14th
Vandalism/Possession of a Controlled Substance/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Ohlone Greenway at Blake St.
At 8:29 AM a suspect was arrested for spraying graffiti along the BART path. The suspect was in possession of fentanyl and a meth pipe. The suspect was booked at ECPD and released on a citation.
False Emergency Report –7150 Portola Drive (Invictus Academy)
At 7:33 AM school administrators received an anonymous threatening email. The school was closed for today and school staff notified parents.
Stolen Vehicle – Knott Ave at Junction Ave.
At 9:25 AM an officer reports the victim’s vehicle was stolen overnight.
Estes Robbery –11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreen’s)
At 12:36 PM the suspect stole a bottle of wine and threatened to hit the security guard with it as they left the store.
Assistance to Outside Agency – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 3:20 PM El Cerrito Police Officers assisted Contra Costa County District Attorney Investigators with the arrest of a suspect that was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. The suspect suffered an unknown medical condition while being transported to the county jail. The suspect was then transported to a local hospital via ambulance, with the D.A. Investigators.
Shoplifting –10794 San Pablo Avenue (Marshall’s)
At 3:01 PM the suspect stole merchandise and fled northbound through the parking lot.
Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens).
At 9:02 PM, officers were dispatched to a robbery. The suspect stole items from the store and threatened to assault staff with a crutch. The suspect was detained in a nearby business, positively identified and arrested. The suspect was later transported to county jail.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave / Fairmount Ave.
At 12:30 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop on a bicyclist. The subject had an outstanding warrant. The subject was arrested and later transported to county jail.
November 15th
False Emergency Report –7150 Portola Drive (Invictus Academy)
At 6:04 AM school administrators received an anonymous email threat. School remained open and ECPD officers provided extra patrol during the day.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Madison Ave/S. 56th St.
At 7:53 AM an officer recovered a parked unoccupied stolen vehicle. The vehicle was towed, and the owner was contacted.
Warrant Arrest / Drugs / Drug Paraphernalia – San Pablo Ave / Fairmount Ave
At 6:57 PM, officers responded to a subject chasing another person. Both were detained and one subject was arrested on a felony warrant. During booking, the subject was found in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The subject was cited on the drug charges and transported to county jail on the warrant.
Stolen Vehicle / Drugs / Drug Paraphernalia / Felon in Possession of Pepper Spray – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens).
At 3:41 AM, an officer located a parked stolen vehicle in the parking lot. The driver was asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver was taken into custody without incident. During a search, the subject was in possession of several baggies of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. The subject was a convicted felon and in possession of pepper spray. The subject was later transported to county jail on all charges.
November 16th
Petty Theft – 600 block of Kearney St.
At 6:24 AM, two suspects stole a pair of camping chairs and fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
Indecent Exposure / Trespassing / False Information to Peace Officer – 11344 San Pablo Ave (Dennys).
At 8:08 AM, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject inside the business. The subject refused to leave, then exposed himself and fondled his genitalia in front of an employee. The subject provided a false name to officers. The subject was placed under citizen’s arrest and transported to county jail.
Robbery / Shoplifting / Obstruction – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Footlocker).
At 2:55 PM, officers responded to a robbery at the business. The subject stole items and pushed his way past an employee during the theft. The subject then went into CVS and Lucky and stole more items from those businesses. The subject was detained at the BART station and attempted to flee after being placed in handcuffs. The subject was later transported to county jail.
Stolen Vehicle – 2300 block of Mono Ave.
At 4:31 PM, an officer reports that the victim’s vehicle was stolen sometime overnight.
Battery – 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At 8:30 PM, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject at the business. The suspect was harassing customers and refusing to leave. The suspect then assaulted the victim and in self-defense, the victim punched the suspect. The suspect was transported to the hospital and the case will be forwarded to the DA’s office.
November 17th
Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness):
An unidentified suspect broke into the victim’s padlocked locker in the women’s locker room while she was working out, and stole her backpack and wallet. Occurred between 3:45-5:30 AM.
False Bomb Threat – 320 San Carlos Ave:
At 9:31 hours, Golestan School received an email bomb threat that was also addressed to over a hundred other private schools in the bay area and beyond. At 11:26 AM, an officer reported the same email was received by East Bay Montessori – 7075 Cutting Blvd.
Vehicle Theft / Recovered – 7700 block of Stockton Ave:
A vehicle that had been parked at this location was stolen sometime overnight. CHP pursued the vehicle and towed it in the early morning hours, and it was released to the owner and towed home today.
Resist Arrest/ Possession of Burglary Tools – 11700 San Pablo Ave:
At 8:28 PM, officers were dispatched to a trespassing detail. Upon arrival officers located the subject inside a vacant apartment. During a records check officers discovered the subject had two outstanding warrants and was currently on active probation out of Alameda County. As officers were attempting to take the subject into custody, she resisted. Officers located a burglary tool during a search incident to arrest. The subject was transported to the ECPD for booking. The subject was issued a citation on the new charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for the warrants.
Stolen Vehicle -1200 Block of Liberty St:
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle around 10:58 PM.
November 18th
Vehicle Theft / Recovery – 3000 block of Yolo Ave:
A vehicle was stolen sometime overnight. At 12:38 PM, an officer located the vehicle on El Dorado at Carlson unoccupied and missing both plates.
Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 7:28 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the store and filled two tote bags full of cosmetics and fled the store.
Drunk in Public- 11299 San Pablo Ave:
At 11:35 PM, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject. Upon arrival officers contacted the subject and he was intoxicated. The subject was advised to leave the business and he agreed to leave in an Uber. An hour later the subject returned and still appeared to be intoxicated. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
