At 6:36 pm Friday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on Sunset Drive in the City of Antioch.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters arrived on scene in front of the Public Storage where they located a person suffering from a gunshot wound. The person was declared deceased on scene. Police have blocked off the area as they investigate.
While responding, Antioch Police and Contra Costa County Fire were advised there could be a second person suffering from a gunshot, however, a second person was never located.
No other details on the shooting are known and its unknown if anyone is in custody.
If this is determined to be a homicide, it will be the 12th of 2023 in the city of Antioch.
Earlier this week, Antioch Police responded to a fatal shooting in the downtown area where a person was gunned down along the railroad tracks at Waldie Plaza.
APD UPDATE
On December 22, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Antioch Police Dispatch began receiving calls of a shooting in the 800 block of Sunset Drive. Antioch Police officers arrived and located a 26-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately began rendering first aid.
A short time later, paramedics pronounced the male deceased. Patrol officers located a suspect nearby and detained him without incident.
Antioch Police Detectives are on the scene and have taken over this active investigation. We are withholding the name of the decedent until proper family notification has been made. This appears to be an isolated incident. No further information will be provided at this time.

Thank God a sensible federal judge overturned SB2 and showed the California elitist politicians that we all have the right to self defense. Especially with how bad Antioch is getting and bleeding into surrounding cities.
That is what ELEVEN Killings so far this year.
No wonder property values are down and businesses are leaving Antioch.
