On Sunday, the California Highway Patrol responded to the area of the 2700 block of Franklin Canyon Road in Martinez on a report of a vehicle off the roadway.
According to preliminary information, CHP responded around 9:30 am said the vehicle was approximently 30 feet down an embankment with a person still inside the vehicle–it was suspected to be a fatality.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District arrived on scene to the 2785 Franklin Canyon Road by 10:18 am and shortly after confirmed the occupant was deceased and were working to free the deceased person out of the vehicle for the county coroner who was notified.
No other information was released.

Solo vehicle fatal crash on Franklin Canyon Road near Martinez
On March 17th 2024 at 9:28am, CHP Contra Costa was advised of a solo vehicle crash on Franklin Canyon Road, east of McEwen Road. A Honda Pilot, occupied by one driver, was traveling eastbound on Franklin Canyon Road when it left the roadway and collided with a tree.
CHP and emergency personnel arrived on scene and the driver (adult male) was pronounced deceased. Our initial investigation indicates the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
