The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between June 16-22 according to the  El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

El Cerrito Police Calls:

June 16th

  • Vehicle Tampering – 700 block of Colusa Ave. At 1:42 AM, a victim reported a suspect tampered with their vehicle.
  • Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Manila Ave. At 2:35 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. The officer conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation to a sober friend.

June 17th

  • Grand Theft – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s) / 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 12:23 PM, an officer reported a suspect damaged the lock and stole the victim’s bicycle from the bicycle rack. Further investigation found the suspect had previously tried to steal another bicycle, locked in front of Lucky but was unsuccessful.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
  • Grand Theft – Cutting Blvd. / San Pablo Ave. At 12:27 PM, an officer reported a victim left their purse in a rideshare vehicle and was stolen by the next customer.
  • Strong Armed Robbery – 160 El Cerrito Plaza (See’s Candy): At 1:19 PM, a store employee opened the register during a sale. While the register was opened, the suspect reached into the till and stole cash.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
  • Shoplifting – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Luckys): At 4:04 PM, an officer reported a suspect stole alcohol and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Driving Under the Influence – 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box): At 3:28 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. The officer conducted a DUI investigation and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation to a sober friend.
  • Auto Burglary – 5030 El Cerrito Plaza: At 8:30 PM, an officer reported a suspect shattered a window to the victim’s vehicle and stole items. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

June 18th

  • Theft from Vehicle – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Luckys): At 10:09 AM, an officer reported a suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s purse.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
  • Theft – 2300 block of Tulare Ave. At 11:11 AM, a victim reported a suspect had misrepresented themselves over the phone and scammed the victim out of money.
  • Auto Burglary / Failure to Comply with Police – Stockton Ave. / Norvell St. At 12:29 PM, officers witnessed two suspects breaking into a parked vehicle. The suspects got into another stolen vehicle which fled.  While searching the area, officers located the stolen vehicle that was associated earlier.  The suspect’s vehicle failed to stop and was pursued onto the freeway.  Officers lost sight of the vehicle and the pursuit was called off.
  • Theft – 5700 block of Jordan Ave. At 4:20 PM, a victim reported they had paid the suspect using a phone app, for a room to rent in Southern California. The victim later learned it was an online scam.

June 19th

  • Stolen Vehicle – Potrero Ave. / Eastshore Blvd. At 2:43 PM, a victim reported their vehicle was stolen after they had left it parked in the area.
  • Shoplifting – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker):  At 3:06 PM, officers located and arrested a suspect who stole merchandise from the store and fled.  The suspect was released on a citation.

June 20th

  • Stolen Vehicle – El Cerrito Plaza At 11:28 AM, a victim reported their vehicle was stolen sometime on the night of 06/19/2024.  The vehicle was located in the city of Albany later in the day.

June 21st

  • Driving Under the Influence – MacDonald Ave. / Key Blvd. At 2:03 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation to a sober friend.
  • Vandalism – 1400 Block of Norvell St. At 7:40 AM, an officer reported a suspect damaged a window of the building.

June 22nd

  • Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Conlon Ave. At 1:51 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a DUI investigation, officers found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released with a citation to a sober friend.
  • Public Intoxication – 9900 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 1:53 AM, officers responded to a bar within the area regarding a fight. Upon arrival, officers located two subjects in a verbal argument. Officers told the subjects to disperse and leave the area. One of the subjects refused to leave and continued the fight. During the investigation, officers found the subject to be intoxicated in public. The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
