The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between May 19-25 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in  El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

May 19th

  • Auto Burglary – 2300 block of Carquinez Ave.: At 5:52 AM, a victim reported a suspect shattered the window of their vehicle and damaged the ignition. The suspect stole miscellaneous items from the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

May 20th

  • Harassing Phone Calls – 2300 block of Alva Ave.: At 9:11 AM, a victim reports a suspect had continued to send harassing messages.
  • Theft / Use of Debit Cards – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24 Hour Fitness): At 3:07 PM, the victim called to report their personal items were stolen from a locker at 24-Hour Fitness on 05/19/2024. The victim later found their credit cards were used at the Denny’s restaurant.

May 21st

  • Vandalism – 540 Ashbury Ave. (El Cerrito High School): At 10:36 AM, the reporting party stated that for the past few weeks a suspect has been vandalizing school property with graffiti.
  • Shoplifting / False Identification / Warrant Arrest – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza (Marshalls): At 4:16 PM, two suspects fled the store in a vehicle after stealing merchandise.  An officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle and arrested one of the suspects.  The suspect initially lied about their name but later told officers their real name.  During the investigation, officers learned the suspect had two arrest warrants.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Residential Burglary / False Identification / Warrant Arrest– 6700 block of Glen Mawr Ave: At 5:31 PM, an officer reported a suspect broke into a residence while the victim was still inside.  The victim called 911 and the suspect fled the residence.  Officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect.  The suspect identified themselves using false names.  While at the police department, officers learned the suspect’s true identity and three warrants for the suspect’s arrest.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

May 22nd

  • Nothing to report.

May 23rd

  • Battery – San Pablo Ave. / Wall Ave. At 1:12 AM, an officer reports a subject was pushed by another subject during an altercation between the two parties. The case was forwarded to the District Attorney Office.
  • Vandalism – 10300 block San Pablo Ave. At 3:18 AM, a suspect cut the rolling chain to the gate of an apartment complex.
  • Auto Burglary – Carquinez Ave. / Lagunitas Ave. At 6:16 AM, a suspect shattered the window of the victim’s vehicle and rummaged through its interior.

May 24th 

  • Assault – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s):  At 1:18 PM, a frequent shoplifter assaulted a security guard after being prevented from shoplifting.
  • Commercial Burglary – 10240 San Pablo Ave.  At 2:47 PM, the reporting party reports a suspect punched a hole in the sheetrock wall and entered the vacant commercial building.  The suspect was captured on surveillance cameras but fled prior to police arrival.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 400 Block of Seaview Dr. At 7:22 PM, a victim reported a suspect stole their vehicle.

May 25th

  • Vehicle Burglary – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza: At 11:00 AM, the victim left their wallet in their vehicle while shopping.  When the victim returned to their vehicle, the window was shattered and wallet was taken.
  • Peeping – 2700 block of Del Monte Ave. At 9:54 AM, the victims reported seeing a suspect in the back yard of their residence. The victims said the suspect was scared off by their presence and fled prior to police arrival.
  • Stolen Vehicle – 10636 San Pablo Ave. (24-Hour Fitness): At 12:04 AM, the victim reports a suspect stole their car keys and credit cards from an unsecure locker. The suspect then used the car keys to steal the victim’s vehicle and drive to San Pablo, where the suspect attempted to use the victim’s credit cards to make a purchase.
  • Driving Under the Influence – Eastshore Blvd. / Potrero Ave. At 12:59 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released on a citation to a sober friend.
